“Age is just a number” – a quote that I have heard and read numerous times but seen very few people who are transforming this quote into a reality. Some people believe that it’s a sentence made by someone who didn’t know the struggles of being an older person while there are some who themselves become the example to fulfil its meaning. These are the type of people who inspire you to keep on going through the hardships of life even when you are getting knocked down again and again. I had the privilege of experiencing one such example at IIFT, New Delhi.
Day 1 of Trimester – I of our two year MBA (International Business) course. After a few hours of gaining basic knowledge about some primary subjects, we had our first interaction with our Professor (Mr. X) in Managerial Communication (MC) Workshop.
I had been taught by experienced personalities previously and always had bland learning sessions with them. So, I had formed the same image as Mr X when I first saw him. It was not the best thing to judge someone in an hour but the unconscious mind has its own rules (as later taught by Mr X). As the session went on, he introduced us to many new concepts about the working of the human mind and how we can learn tricks to fool it. He welcomed students to participate in some interacting activities and also shared about his past experiences. At the end of the session, he probably started to beat my unconscious mind.
Two days later, after long working hours of the night, everyone was tired and sleepy. Then came our MC workshop. Mr. X started the session with a bucket full of energy. He explained theories of mind controlling the body and how our spiritual power can help us gain energy from our surroundings.
We indulged in a short session of meditation with him followed by a surprisingly - mind-blowing - powerful activity. Mr. X opened a presentation which had a poem related to motivation. He read the whole poem in such a powerful way and with tonnes of expressions and body movements, it left everyone dumbstruck with a smile. I don’t know how and from where he absorbed so much energy in this burning weather but it was the most energetic session I had in the past few years of my student life.
There was only one thought in my mind at the end of the workshop. If Mr. X can provide us such an engaging session in this challenging weather at his age, then there’s no reason for any one of us to start complaining at the slightest change of the equilibrium of our surroundings.
I would like to again refer to the quote I mentioned at the start of this write-up. Yes, age is just a number, but, only if you want it to be. At the end it is one’s own choice of being an old person in the prime of our life, or be the youngest version of yourself in the last segment of the journey.

ABG Company:
I have gained a lot of valuable insights from Mr. X and I would definitely be using those in my career ahead in the Aditya Birla Group. The company I would like to join under ABG is Aditya Birla Capital Limited. It is a Non-Banking Financial Company which handles the businesses related to financial services provided by the ABG. Since the work of the company is related to the domain which I will be pursuing during my two year MBA (IB) course at IIFT Delhi, I believe it’s the perfect company under ABG where I could construct my career in the best way possible. The company also provides international experience to the interns and job aspirants, which puts the ABCL a lot above other similar companies.
