Unlike my usual stories, this one’s a short piece, a tale that has and will continue to inspire people till eternity. We have all grown up to interesting stories, some of which have been so impactful that we have never really had to put in a lot of efforts to remember them. All that is required is to read/hear them again, once in a while, to refresh our memories and get inspired all over again.
From painting posters on walls, road to road microphone announcement to Google Hangout with fans, film marketing has come a long way. Today, promoting a film is not restricted to having a theatrical promo, followed by plastering the cities’ landscape with hoardings and trailers on the telly. Film-makers and marketers want to reach out to their audience and engage them in conversations around their films. They do not only want to be seen and heard, they want to hear their viewers as well.
At the stroke of midnight on 1st December, 2013, the Marketing Club of IIM Shillong inaugurated the third season of its flagship event GodSellers 3.0 with the launch of an enticing teaser video and banner with the theme “Sab Ganda hai par Dhandha hai” (It’s Dirty, But it’s Business).
Right-brained individuals are artistic, creative, emotional and good at big picture thinking while the left brained individuals are analytical, logical and comfortable with numbers. Believing in this conventional wisdom, we quickly jump to the conclusion that those who consistently operate from their right brain have a high Emotional Quotient (EQ) while those with an active left -brain have a high Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Preponderance of this traditional view of the human brain leads to erroneous career choices, limiting behaviors and in some cases psychosocial disorders such as identity crisis, social alienation, anxiety and depression.
The phone rang a couple of rings before I answered it. It was Shristi at the other end. It was a hectic time with the final placements approaching soon. All of us were busy with resume submissions, regular classes and attending company presentations on campus. One could smell the stink of ruthless ambition among the 300 students vying for the top 100 jobs of Day Zero.
“You are not obligated to win. You are obligated to keep trying. To the best you can do every day.” – As quoted by Jason Mraz. After lot of practice, group discussion, changes and continuous rehearsals at dorms, university finally 27th November 2013 one of the best days in my life were all efforts paid off – FINALIST OF SAMSUNG DIGITAL NATIVE AWARD- ITALY . The best part was being a visitor to the Country and winning a 2nd position in a National competition out of 180 teams.
All great things are achieved by strong teams. You assemble a galaxy of superstars but if they don’t form good team, one is left managing inflated egos and ordinary results. Inversely, one can have a bunch of average players coming together to achieve something great.
With a large number of universities (imparting ‘higher level’ education, especially that pertaining to management) mushrooming in almost every nook and corner of the world, the concept of learning has somewhat become synonymous to getting good grades by hook or by crook. This has somewhat blurred the thin line that exists between learning for the love of it and studying just to earn a quick buck.
