IIM Shillong - Blessed With An Amazing Weather

I joined IIM Shillong on 21st June 2018, it’s a beautiful campus surrounded by hills full of greenery, clouds embarking at you with their blissful presence, sunlight gazing at you with all its purity. My usual day at the campus starts with a morning breakfast after a grueling yesterday a new day awaits with new challenges and opportunities, I complete my breakfast at 8:45am and the class starts at 9 am and punctuality is paramount, you are late even by one minute the class door closes and you miss your class, every lecture of professor, every word he utters is extremely important as it is filled with knowledge and experience. The entire day at IIM Shillong is filled with classes, quizzes, competitions. Here five hours sleep is a rare commodity, which everyone dearly misses.

IIM Shillong - First Trip In The Northeast: Sustainability Trek

The field visit organized on 9th July 2017 was consist of two places. First one was a sacred forest of Mawphlang, and after that, a trek was arranged. We, 176 students along with Prof. T.K. Giri leave the campus of IIM Shillong at 5.30 a.m. on Sunday for the sacred forest of Mawphlang. Sacred forest of Mawphlang is situated at around 25 km from the campus of IIM Shillong. Sacred forest is one of the remarkable features of Khasi hills, and traditional religious sanctions preserve it.

IIM Shillong - A Memorable Classroom Experience In My B-School

Every class brings with its own share of memories, some were so good that you wished that the class didn’t stop and there were few classes where we felt that the time had taken a standstill and it was like slow poison. But as someone said, you value the good things only when you experience the bad ones. I agree with the point in full. The prospect of studying again after 3 years in corporate life was a daunting task, where I had to fight all my inner demons and face it with a smile on my face. Everyone says placement season is the toughest but for me, the first trimester was the litmus test and life has been smoother ever since even with the ups and downs of SIP processes, maybe because I got used to the flow. The two subjects which I made a point to attend were the Behaviour Science and Self Leadership & Communication even when the faculties were not too fussy about the attendance. What made it special? Was it the faculty who forced us to think deep and challenge our own thoughts and perceptions or the fruitful discussions ranging from the silliest of topics to ethical and moral dilemmas? Many people question what’s requirement of such subjects, but when we work in industry and confronted with such situations, we realise the importance. It helped me to transform as an individual and the ability to look from different perspectives. One memorable experience is the final class where the faculty requested to tell the stories of their lives, whatever you think is important. It will not go out of the room and no further discussions on it. The respect and love for our faculty, the trust of our classmates on the batch was showcased on that morning. There were stories which moved people, internal struggles they had to fight, some nostalgic moments. In the end, most of us had moist eyes. No one did it to gain any sympathy or to shine in front of everyone but it was a symbol of their victory with the circumstances and showcase of their inner strength. The people with smiles on their face have been through the toughest of circumstances and conquered it all. It showed the large-heartedness of the batch to share their stories. This experience will live with me forever because it made me realise that you should never judge a book by its cover as we can never know what a person has been through. So, respect the differences and march on together to the goal ahead.

IIM Shillong, the abode in clouds which is my campus from a year past and for a year to go is unique in its location in the virgin hills of the north east with resplendent greenery on all sides giving an aura of peace and a connect with nature providing a serene atmosphere as if learning in the lap of mother nature herself. It is not only the campus but the locality itself which shows these rare social scenarios where the calmness in the social fabric of the community is slow and peaceful quite different from the scenarios from the cities and towns the students hail from giving a pleasant experience and atmosphere to build up oneself.
