The campus of my college viz. Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi is located in the heart of the national capital within the larger North Campus of Delhi University which is also the fountainhead of knowledge and learning for lakhs of students who have been here and will be here. Ours is a seemingly small campus if one looks at only the three dimensions of it. However, when one becomes a part of the place, one finds out the hidden doorways and pathways which lead to ever bigger spaces that exist in the form of team-spirit and family feeling. Each one covers the back of everyone else. Almost everyone knows everyone else by their name. Even during my under-graduation where I spent four years, my professors did not care much about my name. In a stark contrast, half of the teachers already know more than half of the 70 classmates by their name upon completion of just two weeks at the campus.

Faculty of Management Studies is an entirely unique college, primarily because of it's size which gave birth to a beautiful set of capabilities that the college has developed over the years. FMS students and faculty have created a unique ecosystem which facilitates management learning combined with experiential teaching from industry stalwarts. The students are responsible for running the entire campus and the student body does an excellent job of the same. The college sees some of the best placements in the country which are managed once again by the students. Here, after classes the seniors help the freshers prepare and help them pursue their interests. The lack of resources instead of handicapping the students instead has empowered the institute to rise beyond the competition.

My College FMS Delhi is known for its small size and the resource crunch that it faces, But according to me, this is what makes it so unique among the top B-Schools in India. Even though we are not blessed with great infrastructure facilities, we are still able to compete with the other top B-schools in India. The reason for this I believe is that due to the constraints that we face, we learn to manage our resources judiciously from Day One. The small size is also a blessing as we are able to bump into our seniors or professors on a daily basis and therefore we get an opportunity to interact with them. There is a great sense of camaraderie in my college and everyone knows everybody else as there are so few of us. One other great thing about FMS is that everybody is treated as equal and vital to the college. From the Professors to the students everybody has to share the same resources. So for instance, you could find one of the topmost Finance Professor in the country standing behind you in the water cooler queue. Therefore, in this moment in time, you could easily discuss your ideas with him and this ease of access to the professor will not be provided anywhere else. Even though our building is so small that it ends before it begins but the heart of the people, who call this building their home away from home is big enough to accommodate each of us.

My campus is always identified differently from the rest of the B-schools.  The most unique part to which I can associate to is the bonding that the students have. Given that we are a small campus, the students run into one another very often. This makes it inevitable that if you are an outgoing person, you would know all the seniors as well as juniors besides your entire batch.

The size of FMS is small as compared to a typical B school. The infrastructural facilities thus available are not always the best. However, FMS students, especially Student Bodies and Societies have a wonderful track record of utilizing the resources of the college in the best possible manner. A lot of optimization and productivity improvement processes are applied, intentionally or unintentionally, in order to take out maximum benefit from the resources available. Also, since almost everybody from the batch lives in a flat or pg (since hostel seats are limited and given to less than 15 students), students of FMS learn to become managers and micromanagers. These factors is turn allows for FMS students to learn to be frugal and creative and this translates to better outcomes in the corporate world for FMS alumnis.  The campus is a part of a University system, coming under the University of Delhi(DU) which is one of the most prestigious universities of the country.

FMS. The Red Building of Dreams. Our campus is not at all how you would expect a BSchool campus to be. There are no large sprawling lawns, no giant buildings. In fact, it is one of the smallest colleges in Delhi University. And it is here, within this little area where dreams are made and lives are changed.

The ‘building of dreams’ is the right word for FMS. For some people, this might mean a lack of resources or a lack of experience a B-school has to offer. I thought the same before coming to FMS. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This college has perhaps the most vibrant student community of all B-schools. FMS hosts multitudes of people from many different fields. But I guess, that’s something every B-school boasts of. However, here at FMS this small campus, adds more to our advantage because our student community becomes a very close-knit one. This close-knit community allows people to know each other and in turn helps us achieve things which no other B-school can.
