The batch of 2018 at IIM Shillong is different from what you see at a typical management college. The gender and academic diversity of the batch has brought many people with interesting hobbies and offbeat nature. Some of my crazy batch mates I would like to introduce are-
After months of gruelling hard work and all those all-nighters going through all what is necessary to ace the CAT, followed by an intense preparation and brushing up on my general knowledge, I finally made it to one of the most prestigious institutes of India, IIM Shillong. PGP Batch of 2020 is the 11th Batch for IIM Shillong which was established in 2007.
Getting into one of the top B-school of India, a dream that many sees but a few able to live it up. And those who makes their dream come true have different perspective and aspirations about what they will be going to study in a management school. I am one of those lucky guys who could make it up to my dream of getting into an IIM, but like the most people I thought I’ll be learning management and different verticals of an organization vis-à-vis finance, marketing, human resource and operations.
Oldest among the newest, newest among the oldest this is what IIM Shillong stands for. Situated in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, IIM Shillong is blessed with awesome weather, lush green valleys, full bloom forest, beautiful rain, rapid streams and captivating waterfalls. There is never a chance to complain about the weather while studying or working, and nature there has provided a wonderful cool outdoor study space beneath the stars or under the shades irrespective of the time of the day.
IIM Shillong brings a new dimension at your life as soon as you enter here. There is not one aspect that makes a b-school unique. There is always a mixture of characteristics from which you derive to such conclusion. Let’s discuss some of the features that combine to bring out the uniqueness in the campus.
When we talk or even think about management education, somehow our mind gets super excited and gives us a nudge saying “Hey!! I think you should appear for CAT and study in an Indian Institute of Management (IIM)”. I chose to obey my mind and appeared for CAT 2017. Thereafter my journey has been an exciting one, to say the least. I was offered an admission to Post Graduate Programme in Management by the 7th IIM of India - IIM Shillong (established in 2008). There are many aspects which are quite unique to IIM Shillong. First of all, it is operating from a campus which was a palace for “Bhanj dynasty” and I am sure this is something very unique to IIM Shillong. So, it gives a lot of pleasure when we think of the fact that we as IIM Shillong’s students are getting an opportunity to stay in a campus which was once a palace.
As a B.Tech (Metallurgical Engineering) from IIT-BHU, Varanasi, and M.Tech (Materials & Metallurgical engineering) from CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur I have gained in-depth knowledge in the field of materials science, metallurgical engineering and related industries. Working in SAIL, a Maharatna company, as an in house consultant to five integrated steel plants, I have got immense opportunities to observe and comprehend the functioning of a large scale manufacturing business closely. I have come to understand how different processes have to be seamlessly integrated while maintaining more than 99% uptime in order to achieve the desired output. It is now evident to me how effective management is the key to success of any business.
