When we talk or even think about management education, somehow our mind gets super excited and gives us a nudge saying “Hey!! I think you should appear for CAT and study in an Indian Institute of Management (IIM)”. I chose to obey my mind and appeared for CAT 2017. Thereafter my journey has been an exciting one, to say the least. I was offered an admission to Post Graduate Programme in Management by the 7th IIM of India - IIM Shillong (established in 2008). There are many aspects which are quite unique to IIM Shillong. First of all, it is operating from a campus which was a palace for “Bhanj dynasty” and I am sure this is something very unique to IIM Shillong. So, it gives a lot of pleasure when we think of the fact that we as IIM Shillong’s students are getting an opportunity to stay in a campus which was once a palace.
IIM Shillong has been a flag bearer in the area of sustainability and has a course dedicated for the same. It not only focusses on the development of leaders who are technically sound but also who are committed towards sustainable development. IIM Shillong encourages its students to practise sustainability. Our campus is one of the greenest campuses in the country. It is a b-school which is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the country which provides its students many opportunities to learn from the mother nature. We have been hearing that nature has been and is one of the best teachers to mankind. Students at IIM Shillong are fortunate enough to have a campus which is closely linked with nature.
When we talk about IIM Shillong’s campus, we can’t complete the discussion without remembering 27th July, 2015. IIM Shillong had the privilege to host one of the purest souls to have lived on earth – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. IIM Shillong has had the privilege to host A.P.J. Abdul Kalam sir. Kalam sir spent his last few moments in the campus of IIM Shillong. Kalam sir left this world while delivering a lecture in this campus which makes this campus very special. I personally feel blessed to be in this campus.
Last but not the least, since it is situated in the northeast, local people bring a different flavour to the campus life. Majorly people are from Khasi tribe. Students at IIM Shillong get to know totally a different culture and traditions followed by locals. As mentioned earlier that Shillong believes in sustainability a lot and its one of the objectives is to train people in shillong to make them more employable. IIM Shillong’s students practise that by working on initiatives such as “Nurturing minds” where students teach school children on campus. School students come to IIM Shillong campus to learn. Shillong, being a part of northeast is yet to be developed to its full potential. IIM Shillong is trying to contribute to the society in many ways and hence, it can be said that it has carved its own niche in a short span of a decade because of its commitment towards achieving excellence.
I am privileged to be associated with IIM Shillong!
Aditya Birla Group
I would want to be a part of Aditya Birla Finance Limited (ABFL) as it is one of the leading financial services Company in India offering financial services to a wide range of customers across the nation. I developed an affinity towards the subject of finance while studying Financial Management (FM) and Strategic Financial Management (SFM) in chartered accountancy. I decided that I would pursue finance going forward. I believe working for Aditya Birla Finance Limited would allow me to grow as a finance professional and it will allow me to develop leadership skills as Aditya Birla Group gives a lot of importance to leadership as it is quite evident from its various leadership programs. It will be my honour to associate myself with such a prestigious organization.
