The Hustle At IIFT

On 24th June 2018, I bid farewell to my family members and friends in Bhopal and was excited to start my new journey, MBA in International Business at IIFT. On 25th Morning, I reached IIFT Kolkata campus at around 5:30 AM in the morning. It was the same day we had our orientation programme scheduled to start at 9:30 AM and there I was waiting in the common room to receive my room keys. I did not know anyone in the campus when I had arrived and since it was early morning I had no one to talk to, but the security guards of our campus. I talked to a few guards and was trying to find some common topics for initiating a conversation. I soon realized that everyone here is crazy for football and I came to know why Kolkata has a very good footballing culture in India. Everyone here follows football by their heart and soul, and has a very good knowledge about the game, the tactics used and the history of football clubs and the national teams. Since World Cup fever was going on, everyone was interested in talking to me because I also follow football in a passionate manner. Since the commencement of the programme, I have met a lot of crazy footballing fans on the campus. It’s not just about watching football and following favourite teams, we have a culture of playing football in the campus as well. MBA life here is a hustle, full of excitement, peer learning and working relentlessly while strictly adhering to deadlines is something which we value here the most. To keep ourselves both mentally and physically fit, students at IIFT play football and are serious about keeping their health in a top condition. Apart from our footballing culture, we have a Gym and thrice a week we attend morning yoga sessions before going to classes.

Dreams always used to fascinate and attract me, I was smothered by the schooling atmosphere where every student had to driven with a stick where he never had an objective of his own. I have always dreamt of a free, independent and an endearing experience of college life since my school days. ‘’ If you carry your childhood with you, you would never become older ’’ as rightly stated by Tom Stoppard, I had to brace myself for the upcoming days on joining IIFT and be equipped with the right amount of knowledge to compete against the best of intellectuals in the country. Just like all the other students had to answer, I too went the hard mile of answering of ‘’Why MBA?’’ and ‘’Why IIFT?’’ by convincing myself first before convincing the interviewers.
