IIFT - A Dream Come True

25th June is the day which I will never forget in my life. I left all the worries regarding my carrier and came to Kolkata for pursuing my dream of MBA from an elite B-School of INDIA in IIFT. Entering into a b-school is a different experience all together where work culture is different from a normal engineering college. The first thing of realization is campus itself. The first thing I realised was the huge curved wall that stood like a mountain and my excitement was already very high. The lush green grass along with lake in the campus itself has made the campus. The campus equipped with artistically designed buildings and well‐maintained plush gardens and water bodies.

“IIFT-K : The Red Castle”

IIFT is the name and Kolkata is the place. Yeah, that’s where I would be spending a better part of my next 2 years. The sheer thought of getting into one of the Top B-Schools of India filled me with goosebumps. The eagerness to get on the campus was strong and the emotions only got stronger as I travelled my way from the airport to the institute. Since it was the first time that I was going to live away from home, mixed feelings overshadowed my thinking. On the one hand, I would be missing all the good moments that I spent with my family and relatives back home, and on the other, I was excited about the life that was awaiting me barely a few minutes away (not taking into consideration the traffic of Kolkata). Eventually, our cab stopped in front of what looked like a huge Red Castle, with many different blocks in it. I, and one of my coaching friend, who too got admission into IIFT, stood at a distance for a while and looked at our soon-to-be home for a while. I tried matching every part of the building with the images that I surfed through on Google Maps only to later come to the conclusion that the campus was far more beautiful than what I had in mind. Subsequently, we entered the campus; had a good look at the whole of it and at the end of which I started having positive vibes about the life that I was gonna live in this Red Castle.

A Rollercoaster Ride at IIFT

After quitting my first job in April, I was waiting for my IIFT results. I performed decently in the GDPI process of IIFT. I was highly confident that I would make it to my dream B-School. One fine day, on April 11th, IIFT declared its results. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the first merit list of IIFT. I was highly disappointed with my result. I couldn’t understand what went wrong. Several questions were ringing in my mind. How could I not make it inspite of a decent performance? What went wrong? But a week later there was a ray of hope. The waitlist was released and I was the 6th person in the waitlist. Now I felt confident that I would make it to one of the best B-Schools in India. A month later, in May, I finally received an admission offer from IIFT. My dream of pursuing an MBA at IIFT had finally come true.

When I first arrived at the campus what got hold of me was the infrastructural beauty of the campus. The big wall, with great architecture, at the entrance gives you a feeling that a new grand chapter of your life is about to begin. The campus is extremely well planned and the numerous lakes and ponds in the campus makes you feel so close to the nature that you could actually use it to sail through the rigorous and stressful journey of a B-school. Honestly, to me the campus seemed like a world of its own within the city of Kolkata.

I grew up learning that science and technology is of prime importance in our life. This is the reason I always aspired to be an engineer and one day was able to be one. I worked in the core company of my field as well as in the intellectual property pertaining to the same on completion of my B Tech. Science taught me how to approach a problem and think analytically, but I realised there is much more than science which guides your personal as well as professional life i.e. economy. I started preparing for MBA to understand business, an important activity in economics and landed up in a reputed institute - Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata for an MBA programme in International Business.
