When I entered the campus for the very first time, the first thing which hooked my mind was the Huge Red building, standing in front of me, beholding one of the great institution of this great nation, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. Before even coming to IIFT, the feeling of getting an opportunity to be the part of it was none more than an accomplishment for me. But after that sight of the Red building, among the ocean of thoughts pouring upon me at that time, I realized, I was not going to be the part of this institute only, but, I will be one among Red Bricks on which this institute has been built. Then and there, Target was sighted, to be The Red Brick.

So, it all started when I received the admission offer letter from IIFT. I was working when I received a notification on my phone with the title as Admin office, IIFT. It was the moment of pure joy that alas! all the hard work had paid off and finally it was time to bid adieu from my job and get ready to meet new people. New people, who would be a part of my 2-year journey at IIFT. It was almost impossible to control my excitement to join IIFT and as each day passed, the thought of being in a premier institute of India started taking its toll. I had heard about the rigorous and hectic life at IIFT, but at the same time, I was also optimistic at the opportunity of completing my MBA in International Business with some of the best minds in India.

I embarked on my journey to pursue an MBA and having got the opportunity to pursue it from IIFT was a dream come true for me. Well, I had set out for this journey with mixed feelings, one marked with emotions but also a vision to excel at the same time. Having stayed in Mumbai for 25 years, it was undoubtedly a tough moment for me to leave the place where I was nurtured by my parents right from the time was I born. Going away from the city having closed ones, alma mater, my first organisation and so many memorable experiences made me emotional. It might seem childish and immature of me considering the situation I was in while leaving for Kolkata, but this is what I had experienced and I could not have hit at the truth more aptly.

Regardless I can recollect the restless evenings and the diligent work that I had done to chime the CAT exam. Indeed I belled the CAT, however, the amusement wasn't finished. Despite everything, I had meetings to split to make it to the fantasy school. At last I got a mail of change from IIM Shillong and I was on the highest point of the world. I couldn't trust that I had made it to one of the best B-Schools of this nation. Notwithstanding, the delight wound up inconspicuous after I gave a contemplated the things that were holding up ahead. I knew it from the earliest starting point that the life will be considerably harder than the one I had for making it this far. Indeed, IIM Shillong did not disillusion me in that issue.

IIM Shillong - My First Day

I have always dreamt to be in IIM and become a global leader who can be fearless and give great ideas. When I reached IIM Shillong I am very happy to see my father he was standing proudly. I really feel that time that I grow myself in a positive way and make him proud always. I am very excited about my two years of IIM Shillong with full excitement I reach the mess and first thing was hostel registration where I randomly allotted a room and then I realized that in b-school they did not consider choice and then I went to my room. Looking at the green campus I feel fresh again and I start to unpack my luggage and start organizing cupboard &bed in a perfect manner like my mother used to do because I want everything to be best and then we move towards the mess. The mess area is more crowded than a typical Indian Railway Station. Confused PGP18 can be seen running here and there with no clue where to go and what to do next. I manage to grab a plate and ogle at the food being served in the mess and after that me and my father took a nice walk inside the campus I just quietly observing him that he is sad from inside because the time comes he have to leave me here for next two years I wanted to say many thinks but only three word comes out of my mouth “I LOVE YOU”. He left and after that, I met many of my batch mates they are interesting. They cheer all of us. A round of introduction and a few chit chats and this gives rise to a new circle of friend. After that, we rushed to the hall for the meeting with seniors (PGP17) and the meeting last till 3am and after the meeting over I feel that I conquered the Everest and meeting is all about how to handle the rigorous curriculum of IIM Shillong. After that, I come to my room and rests on my bed thinking about how next day will be. New place, new people and two long years to spend. The whole night I think about is my life also revolves around business case study, presentation, assignments and quizzes. But my inner voice speaks”It's going to be amazing but just give your hundred percent”.
