When one walks in the lane in which JBIMS is located, he or she could be forgiven to fail to recognize one of the premier b-school of India because of its small campus. Though JBIMS has a small campus, the magnitude of its presence is felt at the right place - the corporate world. JBIMS is the alma mater of the who’s who’s of the business world. The aura, high ROI and placements of JBIMS attracts the top students every year and I am no exception. JBIMS had been my dream since the time I had decided that I wanted to pursue a career in management. After the dreaded and hectic induction process, the first thing one experiences in JBIMS is an erratic academic schedule since most of our lectures are conducted by visiting faculties who run their own businesses or are at prominent positions in big companies. This always keeps us on our toes and ensures that we utilize our time well and are prepared for any eventuality (i.e., lectures from 09:00 to 21:30)
When I received confirmation for my admission to JBIMS, it was one of the most memorable days of my life. That moment was a dream-come-true moment for me. I was so excited to be a part of one of the most prestigious B-Schools in India.
The red bricked old building, renowned as Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) resides in the heart of Mumbai, a place which attracts thousands of Management aspirants every year, and of which only a few make it to the prestigious Masters of Management Studies (MMS) course started by our former director Late Dr. K. S. Basu, Ex- Vice Chairman of HUL in 1965. Situated near Nariman Point, within close proximity of hundreds of companies like McKinsey, Air India, SBI etc. to name a few give our institute the industry exposure which is difficult even for other prestigious management institutes in the country.
It all started from CST station to the iconic red brick building of JBIMS. I came to Mumbai with a bag and a suitcase. A bag full of dreams and a suitcase full of ‘Formals’. I looked at the old brick red building that shone of a legacy built over 50 years and thought about all the things I would do in here. About the legacy of JBIMS, it is here since 1965, everything about this place, physical and intellectual, feels ‘heritage’. The striking red building, the spacious (newly renovated) classroom, one of Asia’s largest libraries, the traditional ‘South Bombay’ infrastructure and of course the extensive alumni network built over 53 years. Who would not be in awe of a B-school with such a rich alumni heritage which is also known as – ‘The CEO Factory’ of India.
Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies is not just a name; it’s a legacy of a half century. Established in 1965 by the University of Mumbai in collaboration with the GSB, Stanford University, it has built and maintained its reputation as one of the top 10 business school in India. With the help of an extensive list of accomplished alumni, it has made and earned its name as “The CEO Factory”.
Two years back, stuck in the rut of a job I had no passion for, I decided to break free from the comforts that my job provided and pursue something that would excite me. I decided to pursue MBA from a reputed institute that would give me a holistic view of the domain that I had exposure to working in an MNC bank as a software engineer – Finance. Getting admission in JBIMS was a dream come true, as it is located in India’s financial capital, which opens up a plethora of opportunities.
Getting into JBIMS was one of my dream with which I started my MBA preparation, and here I am 2 years later describing about one of my many memorable moments spent in the 1st year at this prestigious Institute.
For me, getting into JBIMS was just a dream. I was down and out when my father said that you don't need to sit and cry, go and chase your dream. It will not be served to you on a silver plate. Then after working hard for a couple of years, finally I saw my name on the final list of JBIMS. And that was it, I finally got admitted to this prestigious institute. This was just a start. When I first entered the college on 21th July, 2017, I was so stunned just by seeing that 5 floor legendary RED BUILDING. The aura was this place was amazing and this was my new home now. As soon as I attended the Pre-Joining Meet, I came to know that this college is all about tradition and protocol. Discipline is more valuable here than anything and tradition is the soul. These values set apart JBIMS from other institutes. The Pre-Joining Meet was followed by INDUCTION. Not going into details of what happens in Induction, but it is one of the Tradition of JBIMS. I can just say that stays in Induction. The shock which we got after the Induction was our timetable. From childhood only, we used to follow a specific timetable in schools and colleges. But here in JBIMS, we eagerly wait for that single mail from our SAC every day at 10.30 pm which will decide our plans for the next day. Then you come to know that you have three 3 hours of lectures plus a placement activity and some committee activity also. And even in this jam-packed schedule, we have to submit assignments. Every college have off on weekends but here, when everyone is partying, we are in lectures, everybody is busy celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, we are attending lectures. We literally do not have any holidays. 24*7*365, we have lectures, submissions and many other things. This college really makes you a SUPERHUMAN, because if you can survive this, then definitely you are going to get success in the future. This college really makes Superhumans and because of this, JBIMS is also called as CEO Factory. After completing a year at this college, everyone will completely agree that we have gone through some transformations. This college has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone. This college has pushed me to my limits. After completing a year in this college, I can definitely say that these 2 things are elastic in nature that we never knew, that is Sleep and Hunger. Because of our hard work, dedication and our ability to handle the pressure situations, we are confident that we will be ready for corporate and will be able to handle all the situations. And these qualities are important in today's world because the market is changing day by day. And if will get under pressure, then you will be not able to perform. In my opinion, after evaluation of my abilities, I would be able to contribute for the Aditya Birla Group Companies such as Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, Idea Cellular Limited, Ultratech Cement Limited amongst the varied companies of the group. As ABG embarks its journey from, A NEW MARK FOR NEW MILESTONE we JBites also have a glorious past, unmatchable legacy, ongoing success and exciting journey into the future.
