Getting calls from various IIMs was indeed a dream come true. Although I was elated with the selection interest shown by so many top-notch institutes, I had to make a decision to choose one out of them as the place where I would be for the next 2 years of my life which would be instrumental in shaping my career in the years to come.
It was 14th June when I first stepped into Raipur. The day was quite sunny that day. I was quite excited and nervous, both at the same time. I didn’t know what was about to happen. I was hoping these two years would be one of the best 2 years of my life.
I have been in IIM Raipur for over a couple of weeks and I was awestruck with the uniqueness of the campus.
It’s the chirping of the birds and the cool breeze blowing across the airy rooms of Taylor Hall, the boys’ hostel, that welcomes the students and asks them to wake up as the fresh new day awaits. After doing the morning chores and having a succulent breakfast, the students climb up the famous 96 steps to reach their respective classes by sharp 8:30 AM, the time at which a regular day starts at NITIE.
All my life, I was in a cocoon, in a comfort zone of my own, like a frog in the well, I knew nothing about the world outside. This was because I did my entire education, school, intermediate, under graduation in one educational institution.
IIM, the tag almost every MBA aspirant aims for. I somehow landed in IIM Raipur, the college of national importance. I already packed my bags to join in a private B-school which is well known for marketing, then I finally got the pigeon post (kidding, its a mail, because of the time is taken to declare results) stating that I got admit into IIM Raipur. I was in a kind of dilemma which one to choose because the other one is the mecca of marketing and IIM Raipur is on a rising path to building its legacy. Finally, after consulting seniors and pagalguys, I decided to join the IIM (also to become eligible for iitiimshaadi.com).
When it comes to answering this question, only one thing comes to mind and that is “Life-long relationships developed and build during the course.” Every college campus is unique and different. Placement records and classroom learning is always the most important criteria we ponder over before going about selecting a campus if we have the options. For someone, it’s the infrastructure that makes them choose a campus or for someone, it’s the location or specializations. For me, coming to an IIM and being a part of the prestigious league was always a part of my dream, a dream deluded since long, however, I chose IIM Raipur.
Every college is unique by various means and so is my college, the Indian Institute of Management Raipur. Established only 8 years ago, this college has grown to great heights and has differentiated itself by various means.
