MDI Gurgaon – All In A Day's Work

MDI Gurgaon – All In A Day's Work

I entered MDI with a variety of extraordinary expectations one of which was it was to be on similar lines with my undergrad. But during the first week of induction I was made to face the reality and get accustomed to life in a Bschool. We as a batch were handed over to the student council, they taught us that these 2 years aren't about whiling time away rather there will be an extreme dearth of time. Sleepless nights and high pressure deadlines became a common thing. The whole week was packed with various tasks and sessions. Towards the end, the last task given was The 'sell your senior' task. It was the most entertaining time I had since I stepped foot in college. In the task we were given three seniors each and we had to make them into a product or service and make a PPT or video as an advertisement of the product. The curious part was that we couldn't contact the allotted seniors rather had to contact their friends and collect information about them. I spoke to tens of seniors to get as many funny stories, in the process I got to know a whole set of wonderful people, their experiences in the whole year. I made three seniors into a book, pills and a footballer building on the funny instances I heard from their friends. It was an amazing experience as it was an opportunity to connect with the seniors, interact with a whole new  set of people. Also, recording the reaction of seniors watching the video was even more fun. They got all excited about how did I get the information who gave it, I was so well appreciated for the effort I put. This whole exercise was in extreme contrast to the previous task and so all the more exciting.

Meri Ek Kahani - MDI

Meri Ek Kahani - MDI

I would like to quote one of the most valuable lessons of my life learnt right here in one of the class room sessions at MDI. The subject was Managerial Communication. Barely scampering through the Gurukul (Academic Block) door, rushing in Room number 10, I sighed, gathered my breath for I managed to reach in time. But there were some major alterations in the classroom setting to be witnessed. A cameraman with all his kit stood right in the centre of the classroom with the focus on teacher's podium. With the cameraman diligently adjusting his equipment, curious faces guessing what this is all about kinds of faces all around. Somehow, it was a telling sight of trouble to come, and the gut just finds a way to prophesize it. Discussions anticipating of what's to follow had a point which was not to be found. The Professor enters and sets the ball rolling straight away. We had our first evaluation and that an extempore, to be recorded right in front of the batch and videos to be played later. Our comfort zone had gone for a toss long way up in the air. Not only did we have to narrate our stories addressing 60 people, but it would also be subject to openly criticized through a video recording. Our imperfections, our insecurities to be out in front of everybody. But what followed, was the experience of a lifetime. Our raw most selves, talking about our childhood, of passion, nostalgia, mistakes, regrets and importantly learnings set each story apart and each story was worth listening to. We spoke our hearts out in front of people we recently met, appreciating the vulnerability of others too. By the end of the session, our batch felt much closer and we realized that beauty lies in imperfections.

Elections At MDI

Elections At MDI

A lot of hard work, patience and determination and a number of interviews finally completed my Mba dream. I landed at one of the prestigious colleges and life encountered a different kind of thrill. Down to one week of induction and I had witnessed a plethora of emotions by now. It felt like you have to do everything at once. The life became a sea of opportunities and everyone wants to seize it as soon as it is possible. Everyone wants to do everything. People are tired and have their plate full but they will still volunteer for each and every thing. The peer to peer relationship is extremely competitive yet sweet. So it’s a very enrichening kind of experience. I want to share something a particular day and maybe the incidents leading to it.

My MDI Experience In A Nutshell

My MDI Experience In A Nutshell

One of the great aspects about MDI is the quality of diverse students it attracts. People with different educational backgrounds, job roles, industries, gender and geography merge to create a wholesome diverse batch. Though I had heard this aspect before joining MDI, experiencing this first hand is a different ball game altogether. It has been almost a month now since my first day, and I have already started experiencing the same.

"IIM Rohtak Is All About The People Who Make The Place Worth Living"

The new and finally own campus of IIM Rohtak is situated on National Highway 10 of the country, close to a quiet village place called Sunaria. The campus encompasses 200 acres of land and is an oasis of knowledge in the otherwise sport-frenzy state of Haryana. Moving into our own campus this year, the feeling of excitement and pride was akin to that experienced by someone moving from a rented home into his/her own house. We are the first batch to move into our permanent campus apart from being the only batch which has lived in both the campuses: the temporary and the permanent ones. Most of the basic construction has already been done and the frills are underway now.

An Architect Amongst Engineers And Accountants - MDI

An Architect Amongst Engineers And Accountants - MDI

When I first stepped into MDI, I was scared. I am the only architect in a place filled with engineers and accountants. To me this culture is new, and I was afraid I would not be able to fit in. Fast forward to induction week. All of us were excited to be at one of the most prestigious B-Schools in the country and were in a celebratory mood. But MDI had a different plan for us. The induction schedule was so hectic, most of us were sleep deprived in the first week itself. That was when I realized this place was no different from my graduation from college and I would fit right in. This is a place that demands hard work at odd hours, that expects results without fail, that pushes your limits and tests your dedication at every step of the way. This is the place that would change you. This is a place that would make you who you want to be. This is the place where dreams come true. This is the place where friendships are made. This is the place that you would never forget. This is the place that you would always want to come back to. It's warm, it's welcoming, it's encouraging, it's enthusiastic, it's passionate, it's inclusive, and it's all accepting. In such a short span of time, MDI has become family. It's a happening place both inside and outside the classroom. And learning is an integral part of a student's life here. There are plenty of opportunities to explore outside academics, and even though it takes a toll on you sometimes, I can't help but love every bit of it.
