Being willing to step out of the comfort zone once in a while; taking risks in life that seems worth taking. The ride might not be as anticipated if you'd just planted your feet and lingered, but it will be a lot more interesting. It was one of those class where you learn a concept, but you do realize a lot more interesting stuff that happens around you with the help of your facilitator and classmates.
Ever since I came to my dream college, life has been pretty eventful but so has been everyone else's so I would say a unique experience doesn't come to mind as such. What does come to mind however, is a unique person. My roommate Ankur is a pampered child who hasn't been out of Delhi before and neither has he experienced hostel life. He is a CA by profession and one of the best too. So coming to his unique habits. He is a guy who used to love his night sleep but ever since he came here he has become averse to sleeping at night. He doesn't sleep until 5 am and won't wake up for the morning class so as a responsible roommate the onus falls on me. That is where the fun part comes in. I get to kick him, douse him with ice cold water, and drag him from the bed and all kind of tricks to get him to attend the class. This is how I release most of my pent up stress. In the morning he makes the most convincing argument to not attend the class, he cries like a baby and rues his decision of doing an MBA but come the night, he seems like the most dedicated student of MDI making elaborate notes and conducting accounts classes for his friends including myself. He also preaches people about life telling the true character of certain human beings. He teaches them about what’s wrong with our surroundings and doing so he seems so mature and learned. Come the morning, he is a cry baby again. His alternating behaviour fascinates me and is a good source of entertainment. But he is a great friend always there in ones hour of need and I have got much to learn from him.
Just like any other baby, the boy came into the world crying unaware of the joy his crying had imparted to his loved ones. In a typical Indian society, he grew up learning about the importance of education more than anything else. At the age of six, he was sent to the school just to make sure that he loses his originality and creativity. There was nothing wrong with the schooling except that it forced him into believing what necessarily is the right way to do things. It was made sure that he follows the path everyone had trodden because the road less taken surprisingly always led to the doom. With the passage of time, he developed as instructed by teachers and parents, leaving aside everything he could be and everything he wanted to be. By the age of fifteen, the boy was certain that it was high academic grades only that could give him new heights (or I would prefer to call it “new lows”). Huge expectations from all the stakeholders of his life put burden on him for being academically excellent. And yes!! The boy excelled in his school and joined engineering just like any other excelling kid who was deluded into false beliefs. The boy lived twenty one years of his life believing that this was what he had wanted, but he was wrong. There was also an echo in the corner of his heart that all he had done in his life was for his stakeholders, taking his share price to record high levels by giving YoY academic and societal growth. After working as an engineer, he realized the fact that he wanted something else. He wanted his real self to come out and roar. And the day came.
If I asked you to describe the experience at a management school in one word, you might use the word chaos. I would rather use the word serenity. There is value in this quest, there is peace in this zest.
There is something peculiar about marketing, you have to be innovative and on your toes all the time. It is very difficult to sell anything without wooing the customer. Being prospective managers, we would need to find out various ways in which we can promote our product and attract new customers. And this preparation begins from our college itself where we try to find different perspectives of the same problem when we work together in groups. But we are still amazed by the experience we get in class when the professor instigates an altogether different thought process that we had not even thought about. This is where we truly are amazed by the learning process that we go through at IIM, Rohtak.
Its been almost a month since I walked through the gates of the one of the top 5 B schools of the country. The journey till now was very hectic and hence the expectations and anxiety were running high as well
There is a famous saying “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, a clichéd philosophy isn’t it! However, is the implementation of the same a routine exercise as well?
MDI Gurgaon has a beautifully set campus sprawling over 37 acres. ManDevIans, as we students call ourselves are nearly inconspicuous of the hustle and bustle of the city outside. We are living a busy life of our own in the campus. Every ManDevIan is jam packed with academics, club activities, sports, corporate competitions etc. With every fast pacing day, we miss appreciating one thing – “The intricate beauty of our campus”
