360 smiling faces entered the gates of MDI Gurgaon on 14 June 2018. A smile which reflected different emotions: the ambition to fulfil their dreams, anxiousness to be in a completely new place away from their homes and a lot of eagerness to embark on a journey of two years where we’ll end up with great friends, great learning and great experiences for life. One of those faces was mine.

Beyond The Threshold - MDI
The first day I stepped into the prestigious institute, Management Development Institute I had a mixed bag of emotions- happy, sad, nervous, excited, curious and what not! It was the first time I was shifting away from my hometown for two years and entered into a world where I knew no one. I had to start from the scratch and make new friends, compete with them and make my MBA experience worthwhile.

Leaning in my study chair I used to think how would the life at MDI be like? Would it be a fun place? Will I really be awake till 4am in the morning working on my laptop? All these thoughts excited me and made me a bit nervous too. My journey in MDI began right on the day I placed my luggage in the room, the race had already begun, race to collect essentials from “THE M.A.R.T” was first in line. I imagined a man with grey beard giving nasty looks to the newbie breaking the line to win the race for metal AC with four fans, but to my surprise, I saw students like me on the other side, talking politely and taking orders from ignorant and loud kids politely. The scene gave me my first learning at MDI, Be polite to be loud.

MDI - The Epicenter Of The Growth Story
For many of us aspirants, MDI Gurgaon is one of the few business schools in the country which is located so close to the central business district of the National Capital Region – the place whose story is as life-changing as the place itself. After being set up in 1973 as a school for national management training and facilitation for government officials, MDI has very quickly transformed itself into an effective institute of excellence for management learning. Being at the forefront in terms of location, academia, research and training, the immense knowledge capital that it had being an academic institute was easily seen when it began its post-graduate programs.

MDI Gurgaon – A Walk Through The Red Brick Walls
Management Development Institute is one of the best colleges in the country. I feel honoured to be a part of MDI fraternity. Since the college has started, I have enjoyed every single minute of it. It’s really great to live with friends and share every moment with them. I am thrilled to be back in the classroom after 3 years of work experience. The very environment of the college is exciting. A lot of activities happening at the same time with strict deadlines gives me adrenaline rush. In just one month, I have learnt to juggle multiple things at the same time. It is a lot of fun as you get to spend time with your peers and have a fantastic learning. People on campus are from various backgrounds and cultures and I feel it is a golden opportunity to learn and interact with them. Along with it, I get to hear real life experiences from several industry leaders which are a completely new experience. Even in the classrooms, the focus is on learning through application of concepts in real life scenarios. This gives a deep understanding of the problem a manager faces every day and how to deal with them. Innovative ideas are appreciated and discussed that keep the classroom fun. MDI is strategically located which gives an advantage of being in close proximity to the corporates. The campus is beautiful and the buildings are meticulously designed so as to have a great sense of pleasure. At the same time, it’s not always about work and studies. There are a lot of student-run clubs and committees that empowers us to take the leadership role, apply our knowledge and execute various initiatives. A lot of cultural and sports activities take place at the college that keeps the place lively.

Prabandhan Sansthan Se Karodpati Banne Tak! - MDI
My life in MDI so far has been a roller coaster ride. A lot of false expectations have been corrected initially and lots of new thought processes and perspectives have been introduced at the same. I realized each and every day that works in a social setting can never be done alone, not because I am not capable enough, but because businesses require that many perspectives and inputs to be implemented successfully. From case study discussions in marketing planning class to public speaking extempore sessions in managerial communication class, everything has been an enriching experience so far and I have a long way to go. Apart from the academic rigor, managing time is something I am learning and failing each day to and trying the subsequent day again only to succeed. I have met a lot of amazing people with different cultural and educational background and I believe it will only help me in gaining one of a lifetime experience. In the end, I will only say that I may leave MDI after 2 years, but MDI will never leave me.
