A Roller Coaster Ride - MDI

As the saying goes, MBA journey is a roller coaster ride and quite hectic especially the first term. My stay in MDI until now is characterised by nothing short of that. I can quite relate to it after one month in the campus. As I recollect my experience of the day leading up to the registration, I was filled with a rush of emotions. Delighted about starting a new phase in my life, the phase which I had eagerly craved for, I was somewhat nervous at the onset but filled with excitement.

My MDI, My Dream

28th May, 2018 – I distinctly remember the date when I was successfully admitted into my dream college, MDI Gurgaon. To say that I was happy to get into the college I always wanted to, would be an understatement. I was delighted, overjoyed and thrilled to think about the prospects of what was to come in the next few weeks, to say the least. Now, one month into the college, I can assure you that life at MDI has been nothing less than a dream.

Memoirs Of A Mandevian

It’s been only a month since I have been a part of one of the most prestigious communities of this nation- Mandevians. What has changed in this last one month? A lot perhaps, the most important of which is perhaps my change in perception. “Hectic” has turned into “Happening”. Reading philosophy has been my passion for quite a few years, and although I haven’t been able to read as much as I would like, MDI has given me the opportunity to practically apply my learnings so far. A very important aspect of this college, for me at least, is the statue placed in front of our library- Swami Vivekananda. At times when B-school routine and discipline has been too grilling, so much so that I had started missing the leisure of my home, the warmth of my family, it is the sight of that erect statue which silently speaks to me, reminding me of my purpose- to become a “change-master”.

MDI - The Most Memorable Experience

Before joining Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, I was super excited as I was very keen to know my batch mates with whom I will not only enjoy but they will also help in grooming my personality. But I was more curious to know about professors because I have heard the stories that professors are very cool and interesting in b-schools. And from the first class they didn’t disappoint me. In the very first class of Marketing planning by Kanwar Kapil, who is very reputed professor of our college, told the whole class that whosoever dozes i.e. sleep in his period for more than 30 seconds has to come in the front and to dance. Initially I thought he was not serious and just trying to scare us and no one took his advice seriously. But in his second class, he found one of students sleeping and he actually called that student in the front and asked him to dance. He started playing music also. And then the student had to dance. And from then on each student remain highly active in his class. So it was the most memorable experience after coming to MDI because I never thought that professors would be so chill although they remain sacrosanct to their deadlines and never compromise on it.

A Day In The Life Of A PGPM Section B Student - MDI

This is the day in life of a PGPM section B student at MDI. The day starts at 8:30 with a class of legal aspects of business. He like most of us were awake till 4 last night, putting in the last-minute efforts on an assignment that had to be submitted by 4:30 am. By now he has come to the facts that even four hours of sleep is a luxury. As a habit, he had kept 5 alarms in his phone, but unlike his engineering college where he waited till his last alarm to wake up, here at MDI first alarm alone is sufficient knowing that he is even two minutes late in class, the LAB professor would ensure that entire class give him an applause of shame.

The MBA Dream Come True At MDI

It was my dream to pursue MBA and having landed at a tier-1 college like MDI Gurgaon, I saw it coming true. Still I was not sure that after two years of work experience if I ill be able to cope up with studies and academic rigour. Also I was weary about the tough competition among highly talented bunch of students and was not sure what lay ahead. I can highly relate the day I left my hometown and arrived at MDI with a song by Shaan – ‘Tanha Dil’ and the lyrics – ‘Ankhon mein sapne liye, ghar se hum chal toh diye…Jaane yeh raahe ab le jayegi kaahan’. As I arrived at the campus and registered for the hostel, I was given room 346 on second floor of Change Masters Hostel. Initially, I felt a bit sad as I had heard from other students that it would be too hot on the top floor. However, as I went to my room and met other floormates I was sure that I am going to have a wonderful time ahead. Most of the friends on my floor did not stay in the hostel on the first day and instead preferred to stay with their parents outside. In the evening I went to search if someone was still present in any room on my floor and that’s how I met Jason. We roamed around the campus, had food together, played music and had an amazing time. This is how I had a wonderful start at MDI.

The Reality Check - MDI

An excited walk up two flights of stairs, right, left, 20-25 steps and there it was. Room number 319, my room to be for the next one year of MBA. The excited was soon lost as my eyes grazed the inside of my abode. It would be an understatement to say that my expectations were shattered. Little did I know that the future held more surprises in store.
