The dark clouds of the monsoon season were hovering over IIFT during our first week here. The thundering came upon us in the form of the seniors’ drive for discipline. The assignments struck us as hard and fast as lightening. Then the induction period came to an end with a refreshing and rejuvenating shower from the “Top of the World”, accompanied with united chants of “Go IIFT Go”.
A question which I repeatedly ask myself and every time my answer remains the same No nothing. Many People have come and left, but there are very few people who have remained close to me. So Where did I find them? Most of them in my Class rooms. Day 1 of your school, you enter your class room and you start looking around peoples face that is when unknowingly your people judging instincts come into play at first you judge them and then after all calculations you decide on that one person whom you think can be your best friend and you go sit next to him. Then it’s all about the memories you make with them.
I joined Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi with an expectation that I am going to get a break from the office last minute work and crazy deadlines. But little did I know that I am entering a place with more rigorous deadlines. Excel was my office companion which got replaced by PowerPoint here.
After a bachelor’s degree in engineering with four years of speed lessons and small talk; I thought I’d lived through my life altering college experience. A coveted MBA from a top B-school in the heart of Delhi was my key to glide into the corporate world. And like just another naïve B-school aspirant I packed my bags and came over to study everything the placement report promised.
Well it was April 11,2018, when I was working at my Bangalore office, I was already getting goosebumps because of IIFT WhatsApp group and then it was around 4.30pm and a message flashed, RESULTS ANNOUNCED!
Lazy days, Netflix binging and fun rides at the Chandigarh Ghedi Route; this was my routine “pre-MBA”.
Long time ago, this institute was set up to assist Ministry of Commerce in areas of Trade Research and International Trade Policies. Little did they know that IIFT (read as Snow White) would build an unequalled brand of itself.
