There often comes a time in people’s lives when you break out of mundane mediocrity and try to chase your dreams. The greater life, the better life, as they say. I was also one amongst the thousands, who set out on this dream year in, year out. My calling lay at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. I would never know, but maybe there couldn’t have been a better place for me to witness myself evolve. As you enter the gates, the sprawling ground on your left and the towering academic block on the right is kind of symbolic of the culture of the institute. While academics and learning are always right up there on highest priority, but you are always encouraged to run free and discover the person you truly are. With the in-numerous clubs and committees appealing to the various aesthetics and sensibilities of the students, you take your pick at what you want to be a part of. No other premier B-school can claim to have the plethora of activities which XIMB boasts of. Apart from gruelling classes in the middle of the night, summer internship placements, guest lectures, business conclaves and final placements, the students at XIMB know how to unwind. As budding managers, all of us need to know how to switch off from the pressures, de-stress and again start afresh the next time. Nothing can teach you this better than XIMB. While we can be making presentations, submitting assignments and meeting strict deadlines, you can be sure we will be there, de-mystifying life in the middle of the night and not giving two hoots about it. Because this is ingrained in our cultures; to face uncertainty, volatility and smiling in the face of it. As a manager, this is what we will be doing day in day out and not letting it get to our head.
