1- Amazing faculty – Most of the faculty at IIM Nagpur are from IIM Ahmedabad and a few from other premium institutes. Needless to say the students have access to some of the best faculties of the country. The class discussions are extremely vibrant and learning is fun. Moreover, the professors give time to the students outside of the classrooms as well, where students can enquire about anything related to class or otherwise.
Given the unrestrained growth of management schools and programs across the country, choosing an appropriate b-school might appear to be a daunting task for an aspirant. Yup! I am not exaggerating. It is a matter of fact that management education in India is characterized by pockets of excellence surrounded by ocean of mediocrity. India has got the largest number of B-schools in world. According to AACSB, India tops the chart in terms of volume with a total of 3902 B-schools followed by USA and Philippines which have a total of 1624 and 1259 management institutions respectively. The total number of AICTE approved seats in B-schools has increased by four fold in the last 7-8 years. While, the number of AICTE approved seats in management education were 94,704, in 2006-07, up to 3, 85,008 in 2012-13. According to MeritTrac-MBAUniverse.com 2012 study of employability of MBAs, only 21% of MBAs were employable. A study by MBAUniverse.com and EPSI found that lack of industry relevance has resulted in closure of 500 PGDM schools in last 5 years. MBAs in government run Universities face an acute shortage of applications. 50-75% of seats in most government University MBA programs are lying vacant.
This story is part of our series “Lions of Lucknow” where we attempt to peek into the lives of some interesting and diverse profiles at IIM Lucknow. This is the first story in this series where we delve into the life of Jay Shah:
About the same time last year, I was writing an Ode to the batch of 2015, thinking how life at campus would be so incomplete without our dear seniors. The clock has turned-I am on the other side of the table now. I am a part of the graduating class of 2016 of IIM Lucknow. This morning, as I was on my way to college for the convocation, the thought that was stuck in my head was-I’m coming here as a student one last time. As I neared the turn which takes us to college, the huge IIM sign reminded me of the time when I had first arrived for my registration with my parents. I distinctly remember the myriad of feelings that had thrived in me then-trepidation, skepticism, excitement and determination. As I looked at the same sign today, the feelings were so similar and yet so different. I still felt trepidation, skepticism, excitement at what the future holds for me, but the overwhelming feeling is that of impending nostalgia.
Not that we would wait for Woman's Day to celebrate the spirit and power of women on our management campuses, still we thought its good time to present some stories of women who have done it all.
