IIM Shillong Pays Respect To The Gurus On Teacher's Day

The relationship between teachers and students can never be put into words. A teacher is a mentor, a friend, a guide. It is perhaps the strongest relationship, built over years of hardships and efforts that a teacher puts in to make the best out of his/her pupil. We, at IIM Shillong, acknowledge this effort, and hence, just like any other festival, every year the 5th of September is celebrated with vigour and enthusiasm. This year too, the students put up a great show, to show their love and respect for their beloved teachers.

Artificial Intelligence - The End Of Everything Especially Your Job

The year 2050 the first AI appointed CEO, one would laugh at such predictions. The world is at the helm of the biggest revolution ever seen. From Musk to Zuckerberg there is a varied opinion about its impact. The Blue collar job, the ones coveted at the premier institutes are on the line. With the rise of AI, the middle managers will be automated and the structure of the organisation would be flatter than the matrix. The jobs that are more analytical in nature -number crunching and data gathering scheduling and assigning work are at greater risk and may be shed in next 10  years. Being unbiased in nature and using logic over any other factor, the AI would be a competent recruiter and also a good HR. According to a study by Bell State University around 5.6 million manufacturing jobs were shed from 2000 to 2010  due to automation. Bringing AI to the workforce would make it more productive and unbiased. But we would still need a human to take the result of the computations to the world which would suggest of a combination of AI and managers in the new hierarchy. Bringing AI to the workforce would also create new jobs and opportunities for us. At the end what Steve Jobs said sums it all up "The overall point is that new technology will not necessarily replace old technology, but it will date it. By definition. Eventually, it will replace it. But it's like people who had black-and-white TVs when colour came out. They eventually decided whether or not the new technology was worth the investment."
