Journey To Balicha - Rajesh Shreerama, IIM Udaipur

Journey To Balicha - Rajesh Shreerama, IIM Udaipur

My first day at IIM Udaipur is the day I still remember in detail. After getting down at Maharana Pratap airport, within minutes, I realized that my luggage has been misplaced and has not arrived at Udaipur. The campus bus was waiting for the new incoming students, and I was there in the airport talking to the airline authorities trying to locate my bag. It was too late, and the bus left for campus. Having kept my certificates with me, I was sure that my registration would be smooth without any trouble. Coming back to the airport, I realized that I was the only new student who was there waiting for the bus and to my luck, there was a traffic issue in the city. After talking to some cab drivers came to understand that not many cab drivers are also familiar with the new campus location. So disbelief grew inside my mind and was thinking about the turn of events. It was a small gamble of trust before taking a cab. The drive was approximately one hour long and had to make some stops to buy a pair of formals and some basic refreshment. The driver was friendly and was kind enough to suggest places of good food and entertainment. The drive was filled with excitement as there were many temples and lakes along the way. Time passed very quickly, and we reached the campus, a permanent campus which was under construction. Just after getting down on the campus, every step into the campus felt like I will be learning a lot here. Seniors were waiting for the newcomers to guide them to their rooms. Received my room key, within two minutes I was near my room. My cluster was located in one of the corners of the campus, and my window opened up to a beautiful view of the mountains and all the disbelief vanished in a moment.

Why IIM U And What Makes IIM Unique! - Nandhakumar, IIM Udaipur

Why IIM U And What Makes IIM Unique! - Nandhakumar, IIM Udaipur

I was initially in a turmoil before joining IIM Udaipur. I wanted to give CAT again next year and I was pretty sure that I can score more with even a very little preparation. I converted IIM U on May 25th but till June 5th I was pretty much sure that I would give CAT again even though I understood that IIM Udaipur is a great institute as can be seen from the growth of the institute, campus and various posts on PagalGuy, Quora, and other forums/Pages. Three things convinced me that it would be stupid on my part to ignore this opportunity (There were a lot more things that convinced me but I’m mentioning just the top 3 here). First was Prof. Janat Shah. His note to the people joining and his interactive session with the new joiners on Facebook convinced me that I’m about to join a college, which in a few years down the lane would be second to none and that I’m in safe hands. Second, the review for the college on various forums wherein it was very difficult to find negative reviews even though I tried hard. Third, the transparent approach that was followed by the college be it the joining process or the placement reports(IPRS audited). With various things in mind, I joined the college on 24th June and all I could see was a beautiful campus amongst a top notch landscape. From day 1, we were emphasised on core values and that may not be something that is unique, most colleges may emphasize on their core values. But the core values by themselves are unique. I’m not sure if there is an institute which has transparency and integrity as a core value and even if it does I’m not sure if the institute follows the values. But IIM U is unique that way. In the past few weeks, I’ve realised that I’m indeed in an institute which stands by its core values. Secondly, the emphasis on academic excellence, research, and entrepreneurship. Ultimately one joins a B-school to learn and when there is a b-school that wants to provide you the best platform to learn academics, implement it in the form of start-ups by setting up e-cell, incubation centre etc., and also provides you with a platform to take your learning one step more by providing you facilities for research. What more could you ask for!

A Memorable Classroom Experience - Rishabhkar Subree Viraatz

A Memorable Classroom Experience - Rishabhkar Subree Viraatz

I am a computer science engineer and have four years of work experience. I joined IIM Udaipur on June 25th 2018. After having orientation for a week classes commenced on July 2nd 2018. I was excited and at the same time nervous about classes in school. I was constantly fed by my seniors that it would be more different from previous classes and one need to be prepared for it. The professors of the classes on the first day sent us a mail the previous day about the pedagogy that would be followed in IIMU. They mentioned of the pre-reads that have to be done before coming to the class so that we can prepare for it the previous day. Another interesting part was the mention of case studies that would be discussed in the class. We have clearly stated the case study that would be discussed in class to help in the understanding of the concepts that were needed to be taught as part of learning.

A Memorable Classroom Experience At IIM U - Ayush Raja

A Memorable Classroom Experience At IIM U - Ayush Raja

I am sure there are going to be many memorable experiences during these two years at IIM Udaipur. However, so far the best experience in the classroom has been a group project that we did during the managerial oral communication class. The project was to present a skit/presentation/advertisement having a business relevance. We were encouraged to do something bold and wonderful. We had to work as a team and our grades were to be decided on uniqueness, quality of content, creativity. My group decided to present the Walmart-Flipkart deal. The project included Walmart and Amazon as two guys who wanted to marry Flipkart who was the daughter of India (Indian market). The skit started with a video having the parody of dialogue of ‘Mohabbatein’ which went something like “Do ladke the deewane se, ek larki pe wo marte the”. Then we showed the birth of Flipkart and how India nurtured it with love, care and lots of online orders. The skit also had Jabong and Myntra as siblings of Flipkart. We then showed the rivalry between Amazon and Flipkart as kids trying to prove themselves better in front of India. Then we staged a “Swayamvar” where the bride was Flipkart and she had to choose between Amazon and Walmart as her groom. Firstly, the quality and value of Flipkart were stated and then India kept its demand and expectations in front of both the suitors. Both the Suitors then tried to prove their mettle by stating their annual revenues, an experience that they have and market capital. The skit ended with Flipkart choosing Walmart over Amazon as she was getting the freedom to live her life as she wants (founder of Flipkart got to lead the company). This whole experience was awesome. The deal that we showed was very well known and so we had to make it entertaining and present in a unique way. This is what made this hard as we struggled to add humour and present the deal in an interesting and enjoyable way. However, the whole experience of planning this project and performing it in class and seeing people enjoy it made it a very memorable one. The whole experience was made even richer by various other skits and presentations presented by other groups.

When I Think Of IIM Udaipur

When I Think Of IIM Udaipur

When I think of IIM Udaipur and what makes it different a lot of things come to mind that makes my college different from every other b-school of the country. However, when I thought a little deeper, I came to realize that it is not the beauty of Udaipur or IIM Udaipur. It is not the humongous campus of the college or the lakes that are being built in the campus. It is not the night walks that I take under the starry sky. It is not the beautiful green mountains that I see every morning from my room’s window. It is not the academic rigor or the sacrosanct deadlines. It is not the focus on academic excellence or entrepreneurship. It is not how lively the class becomes during discussions. So if none of these amazing things makes IIM Udaipur different then what does? The answer to this is so simple and intuitive that you will not hear it from any of the students here because in our two years journey it gets ingrained in our very nature, and the answer is the people of IIM Udaipur. Yes it is the people of the entire community of IIM Udaipur that makes it different. In the last year that I have spent on campus, there is not a single person that I have come across and thought that he/she is ordinary. Every student/ faculty/ staff member has something so unique in them that the learning opportunity at IIM Udaipur never ends. Every interaction, every communication, every mail that you read, every person you come in contact with you always feel that you can learn something from them. I think this is what makes IIM Udaipur different. It is not the place but the kind of people that come to IIM Udaipur. It is the culture of IIM Udaipur. It is the connect that students have not only with the college and fellow students but also with the alums, with the faculty and staff, with the local community and with nature. Coming to IIM Udaipur was definitely one of the best decisions of my life. It is not only a place which is different from others, but it has also helped me see what is it that is different and unique in me that I can offer the world. A journey at IIM Udaipur is genuinely a Transformational Journey.
