It's 5:45am. The alarm goes off. You peek out of your window and witness the heartwarming drizzle. It has been one year, yet the weather always finds a way to mesmerize you. It's 6:30 and the fitness freaks are up and ready. A former national Tennis player, professional Cyclist, Marathon runner and a Badminton aficionado, all gather for the morning run. It's GAME ON.
Indian Institute of Management Shillong – “Campus in Clouds,” this is what participants and other associated persons of the campus call it. But, I wonder that is it this only the thing they could feel about the campus. I agree that what all I think about the campus can’t be put into two or three words or sentences and I take this opportunity to exhibit my feelings on the campus which all I kept with myself all these days here. Before getting into the story of this great and unique (subjective) campus, let me introduce myself – I am Varun, a 2nd year PGP candidate who is curiously searching for the field where I can fit.
“Shillong” which means "The Abode of Clouds" is the Scotland of the east, it is a hill station in the northeastern part of India and the capital of Meghalaya. True to its meaning, Shillong hosts IIM Shillong campus, the “Campus in clouds”. The institute houses students from different states and different nationalities, from different walks of life, with varied origins, bringing up different experiences under the same umbrella. Being in Shillong makes each student so close to nature, that every time you walk inside the campus, it feels like you are walking with the clouds, they are your partner. If you are in IIM Shillong campus, you are always close to your partner, and from time to time your partner will come to pay you a visit where you both are far away from the bustle of Metro cities.
IIM Shillong, the only campus across India said to be the abode of the clouds, amazes everyone with the spellbound views wrapped with the beautiful surprises from nature.
When I joined IIM Shillong a year ago, an introductory module was going on, during which we were asked to introduce ourselves. One of the questions which were asked was ‘why you joined IIM Shillong?’. The things that struck me the most was how most of us had a similar answer to this question. This answer was ‘because of placements’.
I joined IIM Shillong on 22nd June 2017. I noticed her after a few days into the college. She looks innocent, but she is crazy. I found her name after asking a few friends, ensuring that they don’t find out that I liked her. You should not divulge your goals. I began noticing her daily; then I realize that she should also notice me. So, one day I was standing in a queue and saw that she is also standing in the same queue. Seeing the opportunity, I started in the participating in the random conversation. My opinion was so different that everybody started looking towards me including her. She became curious and asked her friend my name. On that day she came to know my name, and although I was a part of the different conversation, she was my focus point. Hence, I know that she knows my name.
