“The campus in clouds” aka Indian Institute of Management Shillong, is one of the best business schools in India and has contributed extensively in moulding world-class managers who have contributed positively not only for their companies, but also for the larger society.
When I cracked my CAT and got admission in IIM Shillong, without any second thought, I moved to Shillong. Now, looking back after 1 year, I feel it to be the best decision I made in my life. Trying to escape from a mundane life, I found solace in the North East amidst the beauty of nature.
Indian Institute of Management Shillong has been nicknamed as the “Campus in Clouds”. It is one of the most beautiful campuses across the nation and is surrounded by East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. IIM Shillong as can be said is the oldest amongst the new and newest amongst the oldest. The institute strives to become a role model for the new IIMs showing them the path forward and is also bringing a new school of thinking to the existing structure of management education established by the prestigious old IIMs. There has not been one day when this campus has failed to mesmerize me. The scenic beauty, the location and the weather all are meant to woo the ones who get an opportunity to study here or be a part of this campus.
Located at 5000 ft above the ground, away from all the nuances of the city, is my campus situated within the ever-overshadowing clouds. Between the mountain ranges so magnificent and vast, stretched as far as the eyes could see is an experience to behold. Echoing among the mountains is the music rocking around the city in the local taxis and the harmonious people of Meghalaya. ‘Dylan’s Café’, a favourite student dwelling place, reinforces the spirit of music and as Bob Dylan defied existing pop music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture the same inspiring spirit is prevalent in the students as well.
IIM Shillong has been set up with a vision of providing good quality management education and research in the North Eastern region of India. Located in the green contours of North Eastern part of the country, IIM Shillong which commenced operations in 2008, remains committed to its goal of excellence in management education and research so as to evolve into a nationally and internationally recognized educational institution.
Campus!!! After hearing this word what comes in your mind? Well may be, a big area of land with some big buildings and lots of students, people running from this building to that building for their classes and many more. But it’s not the case of IIM Shillong. The campus of IIM Shillong is comparatively small and yes there are buildings and students too. But the thing that separate its campus from other campuses is the size of the batch (less than 200 students) which gives you the privilege to get to know each and every student of the campus and makes you feel like home and yes it gives you one more advantage which is more one to one interaction with the faculties.
From one hill station to other, with the same motive to enjoy as a vacation but, ultimately struggle with your work. While the platform provided by a b-school is second to none, little did I realize I would be sharing this platform with some of the brightest and the most competitive minds in the country. For most students, MBA is the last leg of their academic stint and while it is laced with its fair share of fun and friendships.
