Why They Keep Coming Back To Campus - NITIE Mumbai

As a part of the team organizing the annual alumni meet of NITIE this year, I was waiting at the campus gate to welcome an alumnus, who was a student of PGDIM batch of 2010 and holds a prestigious position at a well-known bank in India. I had already created a picture in my mind of a charismatic personality well-groomed in his expensive suit arriving in no less than an Audi or a BMW. Interestingly, I almost didn’t spot him while I was standing at the campus gate to receive him. Only when I turned back to see a man in a casual off-white shirt with denim jeans and Bose headphones around his neck and getting out of an auto-rickshaw, that I realized it was indeed him. I introduced myself to him with a smile and he responded with a wider smile and warmth as if he was welcoming me to his alma mater. Well, in this case, it's true because he had been frequently visiting the campus for guest lectures and knowledge sessions ever since he passed out, while I was associated with the college for little over 6 months.

What Attracted Me Towards SPJIMR?

In 2017, I filled out the applications of various top business schools in India like thousands of other candidates before appearing for various entrance exams. This is when my first contact with SPJIMR took place. Unlike other business schools, SPJIMR wanted to capture the entirety of me in that form. Beyond the standard questions about my general details, academic records and work experiences, the form had questions about my life experiences and who I am as a person. Filling out that form was a great experience since it made me relive many stories from my past which I had forgotten about.

What Can Future Executives Learn From Adam Gilchrist?

I have been a crazy fan of the game of Cricket since my childhood. Encouraged by my father who introduced me to the game, many instances in the game have been lifelong lessons that I still continue to imbibe in my life. From the centuries of Sachin Tendulkar to the fiery spells of Brett Lee, each of them had a lesson to offer. But, one of those that stands out to this day is one that I learnt from Adam Gilchrist. This acrobatic wicket-keeper who doubled as an explosive opening batsman belonged to a generation of Australian players who were infamous for the myriad of controversies they were involved in. But, he stood out of all of them. In a pack of wolves, he seemed to exude the calmness of a monk and above all highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship.

My First Month At IIM Sambalpur - Rishav Jhunjhunwala

It all started when I cleared the interview rounds of CAP selection process and received the admission offer from IIM Sambalpur. I was in a dilemma whether I should get some relevant work experience or join a good MBA college this year itself. IIM Sambalpur is located in a small city in the western part of Odisha. Sambalpur is one of the most beautiful cities of Eastern India that is untouched by the ravines of urbanization. However, there are major roadblocks that plague most of the tier 3 cities in India. But with difficulties, come a plethora of opportunities. That is where I wanted to maximize my utility in my pursuit of becoming a social entrepreneur. I was always intrigued by the nuances of the smaller cities in our country and wanted to explore the gamut of opportunities that lay ahead. So IIM Sambalpur fitted right into the alleys of my conviction. After contemplating my future aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur, I joined the PGP program at IIM Sambalpur.
