IDEA uncle - Shubham Sharma, XIMB
I still remember the time when cell phones were made accessible to the middle class people at a relatively cheaper price and my dad bought the 1st cell phone which was Nokia 3310, I still remember the time I held it in my hands but was intrigued by the question about how calls were made through it and asked my dad about the same, to which he introduced me the concept of sim card and it was an IDEA sim which was the 1st we used. As a middle class family my mother always told me that making calls through the cell phone is very expensive, I became conscious and even quit playing games on the phone as I thought in some way my playing will also add to the cost. My dad observed this sudden change in my attitude and confronted me ,when I told him about it he said that IDEA is one brand he trusts blindly and also said that this house (which I could contemplate later as I grew up that he bought few shares of the company and the house in which we were living at the time of this incident was the 1st house we bought ,some part of the money came from selling of those shares at good price) was in a way built by the IDEA. He said that a company which has contributed towards providing a roof over our head will never do anything which will harm its customers and since that day IDEA feels more like an uncle to me rather than an entity which helped my father to build the 1st house.
PART B: Carpe Diem!
One of the most difficult situations I had to overcome in my life was changing my perception towards ‘challenges’. As far as I can remember, I always perceived challenges as a hindrance to my success. And I believe that most of us also struggle with the same thing. My attitude towards this perception changed when I read this book called, “The Power of your Subconscious Mind.” The book beautifully illustrates challenges as just a mere negative thought in your mind. Further it adds on by saying that one must see challenges as opportunities. Challenges and opportunities go hand in hand and you must overcome challenges to set new milestones. Over the period of time, when I started analyzing my approach towards it, I realized that an opportunity was indeed waiting right there in front of me, wrapped tightly in a gift paper with challenge on the outside. When I started approaching it in this way, I realized that the same challenges now acted as a stepping stones to my success.

PART A: Everywhere you look, there's Aditya Birla Group!
Little drops of water make the mighty ocean. If we were to say that the world is full of lakes and oceans; Aditya Birla Group is that enormous ocean that has collected every single drop of water in metaphorical sense and touched the lives of every individual, in reality. There hasn’t been a single person who has lived without ever hearing about the Aditya Birla Group. I still remember the day like the back of my hand when I was introduced to the Aditya Birla Group, whether it was knowingly or unknowingly. My mother had recently purchased a mobile phone for me and I was over the moon about it. Having a mobile phone in high school was a big deal back then. People were curious about it rather than it being a symbol of high standards. I remember being excited that day; my father had promised me that he would get me a SIM card so that I would be able to make calls and receive them as well. And as promised, when I reached home from school, there it was, lying on the table an ‘Idea SIM Card’. To say that I was happy would be an understatement. Connecting people by providing high quality service and bringing happiness is a different feeling altogether. This was one such story that I vividly remember. In my 22 years, I must have had 100 such instances where a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group has left a mark on my life.
