Founded in 1857: Seth Shiv Narayan Birla commenced cotton trading operations at Pilani, Rajasthan and set the foundation of the Birla Group of Companies and it subsequently transformed to a leading multi-product corporation covering varied business sectors. It is impossible to have not come across an ABG product in one’s everyday life. It has had a huge place in my life like it has been in millions of other peoples’ lives. There are numerous incidents where ABG has helped me get set for the big day of my life and it is impossible to choose one such incident. So I thought of writing about a few such incidents.
Aditya birla group has been one of the prominent service providers in almost every sector with companies like Aditya Birla Nuvo, Idea Cellular Ltd, Birla Sun Life Insurance Co Ltd, Birla Global Finance Ltd, Aditya Birla Retail, Essel Mining & Industries Ltd…etc. But being a student the industry which has impacted me the most is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) which is a part of USD 44.3 billion Aditya Birla Group which contain portfolio of brands like Pantaloons Fashion and Retail (PFRL), Madura Fashion & Lifestyle, Peter England, Allen Solly, VanHeusan.. etc so these brands help me a lot to have a clothing of required budget and look good. Till now ABFRL hosts India's largest fashion network with over 11,000 points of sale, which include close to 2,500 exclusive ABFRL brand also it has established outlets across 750+ cities and towns, 4,900+ multi-brand outlets and 4000+ department stores across the country. Additionally, presence of Aditya Birla in Telecom sector as a part of Vodafone Idea Limited as an Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group partnership. It is one of leading telecom service provider in India and second largest worldwide. With 1,850 MHz of total spectrum holding, over 200,000 unique GSM sites and ~235,000 kms of fibre, the company offers superior voice and broadband, covering almost 92 per cent of the population and reaching nearly 500,000 towns and villages, which is a great achievement. So, while using Mobile services I found that let me be anywhere but the network of Idea is there with me let it be any remote location. It was idea only which being my communication channel helped me to connect me with my family when I was at Laddakh and there was a serious congestion in network.
There always comes a time in everyone’s lives where they are on crossroads and their decisions are put to test. One such crossroad I encountered was in my final year of engineering. Haunted by the fact that the responsibilities of family of 6 will be shouldered by my inexperienced self soon, my decision to give a direction to my career was put to test. A lot of variable factors were to be weighed carefully before I decided to choose my next path for my career. This was vital as it would aid me in becoming capable enough to achieve the same. Running through all the calculations and possible outcomes in my mind with the help of my family and friends, I decided to go abroad for my further studies, to test my mettle so as to achieve a better life for my family and me. Being from a middle-class family, a dearth of monetary supply was bound to exist which led my grandfather to put his hard-earned life’s money at stake and sanction a loan for my bright future. And so, began my life’s next chapter in a foreign country among strangers who were soon to become my friends. Like every exciting journey has its share of obstacles, mine was not different. Deteriorating health and loss of focus led me to more and more frustrating days. In the end, after spending two months in a country of opportunities, I had to return to my home country only to face criticism of being a quitter by those who were close to me. A person’s will to move forward would shatter to pieces after taking such a sudden decision, however, despite all the criticism, my family did not leave my side and encouraged me to stand on my feet. Aware of the pre-existing responsibilities, I decided to give my sweat and blood to MBA entrance exams which were only a couple of months away. Driven by the urge to prove myself that I am not what everyone is calling me, I excelled in multiple entrance exams and converted calls from multiple coveted B-Schools with just 2 months preparations. In the end it was my ambitions and my family’s support that led me to where I am now today.
