It stepped its foot in the sectors such as textiles and fibers, cement, aluminum and chemicals which were critical for independent India at that point of time.
Whether we realize it or not, ABG has had a presence in our lives since we were kids. Every time your mother would give you home cooked meal wrapped in aluminum foil to keep it hot she was most certainly using “Freshwrapp” or “Superwrap” an ABG brand for doing so. Being able to enjoy a fresh home cooked meal in schools and even now in college wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
Challenges are a part of life and it is oftenly said that “If there are no challenges there is no life”. In my life there were many challenges but I would like to share a few among them and starting with my one of my most difficult challenge. When I was in my 9th std I had just scored 38% in my first term Exams because I used to play Football & Chess for my School team and I was so involved in sports I was not able to cope up with my studies and I was a student who never scored below 75% and in our school many of students used to drop out after 9th std But after my first term I tried to maintain that balance between my studies and sports and in my final term I scored 70% so for me actually I can say my first big challenge in my life and I am proud that I overcame it without help from anyone.
Challenges are what make our life interesting, and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. With this thought, I have always tried to tackle the challenges that life has thrown at me. I believe that after each challenging hurdle that we cross, it makes us more prepared to face the upcoming challenges. One such situation was when I was working for a consultancy in Chandigarh, where I had spent around one and a half years and was getting into the role of managing the new recruits to train them and help them do the projects as required by the job. At that part of my career, I realized that managerial skills are very much necessary to grow up the ladder. Although I was getting those skills through experience, there was no streamlined process, which made me think of MBA as my next educational goal. As every aspirant would want, I also wanted to get into one of the top colleges in the country. So, I had started preparing for the entrance exams after the working hours were over, but it was getting very hectic as my job required me to read hundreds of documents in a day and studying after that was becoming impossible. I had to the take the decision of quitting the job, so that I could give my all time to studying. This period was a very tough one, the question that what if I don’t get a good college mentally weakened me. But I took it as a challenge and prepared well enough and got admission in one of the good management schools in India.
Whenever the Aditya Birla Group name is taken, the first thing that comes into mind is diversity as the group has presence in so many sectors that everyone in India might have used one or the other product of it. Started as a Jute manufacturing company, the group has come a long way getting its existence in cement, textile, telecommunication, chemicals, agribusiness, financial services, retail, IT. Not only that, the group has also managed to be amongst the top players in each industry. The fact that it is the largest Indian MNC with operations in the US amuses me the most. The fact that they have got so much popularity in fashion retail in so less time says so much good about the Management team of the group. Some of the biggest brands in men's fashion such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England, etc. are owned by Aditya Birla Group. Allen Solly, my personal favourite is known for introducing the trend of smart casuals in the formal wear category. With the introduction of Birla Sun Life Insurance Company, the group has been in the top 5 insurance providers in the country. The group also jointly owns Vodafone-Idea with Vodafone. With this much diversified existence, the group has always been amongst the most trusted groups in India.
