How one year at a B-school changed the way I looked at myself -MDI Gurgaon

How one year at a B-school changed the way I looked at myself -MDI Gurgaon

Exactly after one year since I  joined MDI Gurgaon, I am restropecting how my life has and my dreams have changed drastically. The trust that I have developed in myself, the way I see myself today has been shaped and defined by my alma mater. The first week in MDI was a week of “awe”, a  self-realization that you have actually made it to this place and the  sheer legacy of this place consumes you. Those stories you have heard  from seniors, your CAT coaching mentors unfolding and showing glimpses  of how a b-school life would be. As the induction week kicks in the  reality check follows, sitting in an auditorium with a batch of 360, you  realize that you have to face the competition against some of the  bright minds of the country, not only for grades but also for club  selections, sports team trials, class reps selection, you find yourself  competing against the best in the country. Nothing comes easy and to  compete is the only way out. For someone like me from a mediocre  undergrad college when compared to my batch mates from IIT’s, NIT’s,  SRCC, Chartered Accountants and a rare doctor, the realization of  competing with them for even a single little credit made me realize the  kind of competition I am going to face. Before I joined MDI the biggest  fear that I had in my mind was that will I be able to make friends among  people from top colleges of the country. But to my surprise, while  working round the clock, submissions, activities and all the random  stuff that came our way, I found people who were always there for me.  From waking each other up to crying after feeling homesick, from making  fun of each other to having meals together we turned into families. This  realization dawned upon me during the KOK week. I was playing Badminton  for my section and when the match started, my classmates turned up to  cheer for me despite being sleep deprived, burdened with assignments and  various other activities. It has been rightly said that “The great  thing about new friends is that they bring new energy to your soul”.MDI  is filled with amazing people from all across the country and it feels  great to be a part of this institution.

If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you | Archit Goel - MDI Gurgaon

Life is full of challenges. There are ups and downs, but whatever happens, one should trust and believe in self. After all, challenges make us stronger than before. One of the biggest challenges I faced was during my entrepreneurial journey. This happened during my last year of graduation, wherein I wanted to turn my idea into reality. I wanted to solve a problem people faced and wanted to make an impact in their lives. I faced a number of challenges right from building a team, getting the finances for the start-up and creating a business plan. There were other social hindrances as well – several people suggested me not to go for it as I was too young to start my own venture.

There are a few small things that give a person the satisfaction that they have achieved something. For me, the clothes that I have bought over time have helped punctuate the various milestones of my life.

Love Affair with ABG - MDI Gurgaon

Love Affair with ABG - MDI Gurgaon

As I sat down to write this article, it dawned on me how ABG has stood beside me at the different phases of my life. Starting from the early years, let us call it phase one of my life, when my parents who belonged to small towns moved to the big city to provide a good life to their kids. Like any newly married couple they also had a dream to build a house of their own and to do that in a city like Delhi is no easy task. But thanks to their hard work and determination they achieved this dream. I remember being a small kid, visiting the site with my grandfather. I was extremely fascinated one day when I saw this person mixing water in some grey looking powder. As any curious kid, my first instinct was to play with it as it seemed to like dough to me which my mother used to give me to play with and I had seen her mix water in a powder in that case too. I was just about to take a leap in a puddle of this strange looking dough when my grandfather anticipated my intentions and caught me in time. It was that day I had my first encounter with ABG and that’s when a long love affair started. Even though my grandfather didn’t mention anything about ABG but he did mention this strange looking dough is called cement and this will make our house strong just like the man that was there on the bag of the cement. Cut to phase two of my life, I was now a school going kid. And like any other school going kid, the most awaited period for me was the lunch break. Time when we would open those tiffin boxes our mothers specially woke up in the morning to prepare for us and the excitement to see what mystery do our lunch boxes and those of our friends will unravel on a daily basis. But never had I thought, what kept that food fresh and hot was nothing but another long term association with ABG. Let us now cut to phase three of my life, I’m a teenager boy now with some level of independence in life and ability to make at least some of my own decisions. I’m driven by peer pressure as well. I have a friend circle and it is important for me to be a part of that group which means being update to on the latest movies, Tv-shows and most importantly fashion trends and fads. And here is when again ABG came to my rescue, Pantaloons being my one stop solution for all the funky apparel. And now comes the fourth stage of life, I’m an adult now. Soon to enter in to my first corporate experience. Gone are the days of dressing casually in jeans and t-shirts, it is time to go corporate. And yet again ABG doesn’t disappoint.

Persevere and one day you shall achieve your goal, MDI Gurgaon

ABG (Aditya Birla Group) is one of the largest Indian conglomerates with a strong workforce of 120,000 reaching out to 133 Crore Indian and 35 countries. It has grown continuously since its inception in 1857. It’s hard to not be touched by its vast, versatile and diversified business in more than one way. ABG has been a part of my family’s daily requirements from fashion to kitchen aluminium foil to even the cement that went to build the strong foundation of my father’s home. I, personally, have been a frequent customer of ABG Brands, especially after I started working. My favorite ones are Peter England, Van Heusen and Louis Philippe. Shopping and fashion aside, even after I’m done with all that, there is one way ABG will always remain close to me; it’s through the Vodafone network, the same network that connected me to my family and dear ones when I go for small mountain trekking in secluded areas where no brand reaches, except for ABG’s Vodafone. So no matter what you do and where you go, ABG is so big and diverse that it will always be a part of your life in one way or other.
