One of the first memory I have to goof around my father is longing to go for a drive as soon as he gets back from work in our age old Ambassador. Little did I know at the time that it was owned by Indian Motors which was the largest car manufacture in India. Or, the newspaper I am using since I was a child, the Hindustan Times was owned by the Aditya Birla Group. We Indians can never deny the contribution the Aditya Birla Group had and continue to have even today in the development of various sectors of Indian economy.
I knew about Aditya Birla Group, but I did not know that it has so much contribution in my life. In almost everything like telecom services like Vodafone, idea that I use daily, even in my house every one is the user of these two networks.
Being a young girl, growing up in a garment factory, my childhood was always way more exciting than that of other kids. At least, I like to think of it that way. Being the daughter of the two partners of the firm, I had no option but to stay there. My parents tried to make it as comfortable and normal for me as possible, but this was the only way we could spend time together, so I had no qualms about it. I had my own desk and chair and a bean bag to sleep on. The best part was the way each and every person in the factory pampered me and treated me like a princess. While other children used to go out on the roads and play with their friends, I used to go to different departments each day and hang out with the employees. They were my friends. But looking back, this really helped me learn a lot of things about how businesses work and trying to get along with people who came from such diverse backgrounds and were very much older to me. You may be wondering how Aditya Birla Group figures into this story. The thing is, we used to manufacture shirts for Allen Solly and Van Heusen and these brands become a really big part of my life. I got an insight into the efficiency of the processes they follow and the exceptional quality that they expect to be delivered every time. After this, there was no going back. I was in love with brands and decided that I would get into retail management sometime in the future, hopefully working for Allen Solly woman. That is what I have been striving for ever since then.
As said by William Fredrick Halsey Jr., There are no great people in this world, only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet. This quote has helped me face various challenges in life without having any regret of coming across them.
