Aditya birla group,is a global conglomerate with its business spread across all over the world with their quality product and services. Aditya birla group has had such an impact in our country that we do not realise that the little things that matters to us the most or has played a significant role in our life goes unnoticed.
I joined Mu Sigma in 2016, one of the best companies to work for in the data analytics space. Apart from learning the art of aiding business make decisions driven by data, Mu Sigma teaches you about yourself. That’s what I learnt the most in my 3 years there. It was the right start for my career, as it carved out a very steep, yet beautiful learning curve. After working for 2.5 years across various business verticals across multiple geographies, I decided to pursue MBA, and I got selected at T.A. Pai Management Institute. I had 6 months before I could leave Mu Sigma to start my MBA life, and I wanted to make the best out that time. Around that time, I got the opportunity to play the role of a team lead, where I would be leading a team of 4 freshers in the company. The challenge was that the work that was going on in that team was something that I had never worked on before. I had zero experience in that domain, and it had nothing to do with any of my past experiences in my previous teams. Although I jumped at this opportunity, willing to test my limits, the first two months were a disaster. I had no clue about the work that was going on, the 4 freshers in my team required my assistance badly, and I was unable to help them. I simply did not understand how to tackle the infinite challenges thrown at me on a daily basis. Every day was different and unpredictable, with newer varieties of challenges. Being the lead, I felt helpless and disappointed that I was unable to add value. At this time, I happened to attend a session about Emotional Intelligence, and it was there that it hit me. The problem was not the new role or the new type of work. The problem was me. It was the Golem effect in action. My fear of not being able to cope up was the reason why I was unable to perform to my fullest. I knew I was capable, but was not self-motivated. As soon as I realized this, things suddenly became easier. And in the next 4 months, I transformed from a completely de-motivated team leader to a super enthusiastic lead that my team members looked up to. I was awarded by my manager for my performance. My client got emotional when he heard I was leaving, and he was kind enough to write me a recommendation on LinkedIn.
Being a student of management , I was introduced to marketing 101 in the first term. While learning the concepts such as segmentation, targeting, positioning and brand management the obvious example that used to come in my mind was of Aditya Birla group.
Whether an individual realizes it or not, the Aditya Birla Group has imprinted its mark in the life of almost every Indian. It is with fondness that I reminisce a significant moment for my family, that occurred in my childhood, when my father bought our first house after moving back to India. Little did I know then that it was constructed using Ultra Tech cement. Living in Hyderabad during my school days, the closest supermarket to my home was More, which was then a part of ABG as well. I would always accompany my mother there on our weekly grocery-shopping trips, in order to talk her into buying a few extra cookies to stock up at home.
The Aditya Birla Group is a value ethic-based organization. The culture percolates from top to bottom. The ABG growth is in harmony with environmental parameters. Generally, they setup big projects in remote area and they give good cultural environment and welfare to their employees by providing them with good facilities of housing and schooling and hospital for instance, the Century Enka setup in Pune and Bharuch with Century Rayon in Kalyan. The working culture is so good, that the person is able to perform his job and can have good quality with children and parents. In the colony, the housing place creates a great platform for the development of the children in terms of the social behaviour. People with different walks of life come together and every year they celebrate the different cultural festivals. The bonding among the employees is so rich that even after retirement, people are ready to reach to each other and help. And the same thing is reflected in the next generation also. The sports facilities in the Century Enka Colony, Pune gave me the best moments in my childhood. I was very lucky to be a part of many events organized among the Birla colonies in Pune. Such sporting exposure in my childhood has inculcated the sportsmanship in me.
Aditya Birla Group has indeed lived up to its name and has more certainly risen like the sun and emerged as the star at the center of the Indian industries. This giant conglomerate is not just big in my life, rather every life, for it rules not just sectors like textiles and telecom, but also petroleum. It was founded in the same year as the uprising of 1857, and it has served justice to its birth year by being a revolution in itself.
I recently came to situation where my work life balance was getting hampered. I was given a day in day out work to finish a certain project. Till the first few weeks things were running smooth and I was able to manage the work. But slowly back in my mind I was getting frustrated each day, as my regular schedules were getting tossed off. My “work and life” was just becoming “work and work” for me. I cannot ask my higher management to stop giving me more work because it was the situation not only for me but for them too. We need to deliver a very complex and delicate project in next month’s release.
