Summer Internship Experience at H&R Block

Firstly, I would like to thanks to my faculties who gave me this opportunity to share my internship experience. During my MBA first year, when I met with one of my senior friend who came back from his internship at H&R Block, he shared his experience with me that he filed taxes of the individuals who worked in different organisations. As I was the topper of Income tax during my graduation so it was very interesting for me to get that practical experience of tax filing. I discussed it with my mentor then he also advised me to go  for H&R Block Interview. He recited me the stories and work culture of the office, after which I decided that, I would definitely sit for the interview.

My first internship experience!

Coming from a middle class business family, the decision to invest time as well as money in pursuing MBA was a well thought out and a calculated move, keeping in line with my capabilities and best of interest of both myself and my family. It was in class eleventh, when our business studies teacher introduced us to the world of business and sparked the interest. Besides maintaining consistency in academics, my interest in extra-curricular activities encouraged me to showcase my managerial abilities, like leadership skills, critical and creative thinking, teamwork, by participating in different kinds of business events at school.

Challenging my Limits

The first challenge that each MBA student has to face is getting an internship with a decent brand and a good role. My college NMIMS,Banglore puts up a good effort with students to give them a real time experience of how the processes go by taking mock Group discussions and interviews. Along with those, I prepared separately for all the recent group discussion topics and went through my CV covering all the things i have done in the past and how they could be related to my interest in operations stream of management.

To be able to intern at a prestigious Company like

To be able to intern at a prestigious Company like Tata Steel Limited was a dream come true. I sat for campus placements but also applied to Companies through external sources. Just like many of my peers and probably like almost everyone who was in the same position as I was, I was extremely nervous but at the same time was very excited. “I have to get into one of those Companies that I have always dreamt of working in”, these were my constant chants during that period. This journey was obviously a roller coaster. To clarify, I am a fresher. Beginning with how I prepared for my Group Discussion and Personal Interview round- I used to read on various abstract and non-abstract topics on several MBA Entrance preparation websites, I used to read the newspaper every day to be abreast with whatever is going on in the business world, I prepared for every possible question that I thought that an interviewer could ask me on. Since I was seeking a role in marketing, I also used to read about and watch a lot of ad campaigns. Sitting for a lot of interviews and getting rejected was of course, very dejecting; but, as they say- you are not unsuccessful- may be something better awaits. Trust me, that is what happened in the end- I got a confirmation from Tata Steel Limited. And then soon, my offer letter arrived. I was offered a role in marketing for Tata Steel Aashiyana. After this, nothing mattered to me- after all, I was to intern at one of my dream companies and that too in Kolkata (where my family stays).
