How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far..

Who hasn’t heard the name of Aditya Birla Group? After all it is a $50 billion multinational company. Aditya Birla group founded in 1857 has since grown and expanded into 35 countries with over 120000 employees. In a matter of few decades, the company has travelled a success journey, to emerge as a multinational power brand, with strong institutional values and a solid impeccable foundation. Aditya Vikram Birla and Kumar Mangalam Birla’s deep commitment towards the company has led the brand to where it stands today.
To be able to intern at a Prestigious Company like Tata Steel Limited was a dream come true. I sat for campus placements but also applied to Companies through external sources. Just like many of my peers and probably like almost everyone who was in the same position as I was, I was extremely nervous but at the same time was very excited. “I have to get into one of those Companies that I have always dreamt of working in”, these were my constant chants during that period. This journey was obviously a roller coaster. To clarify, I am a fresher. Beginning with how I prepared for my Group Discussion and Personal Interview round- I used to read on various abstract and non-abstract topics on several MBA Entrance preparation websites, I used to read the newspaper every day to be abreast with whatever is going on in the business world, I prepared for every possible question that I thought that an interviewer could ask me on. Since I was seeking a role in marketing, I also used to read about and watch a lot of ad campaigns. Sitting for a lot of interviews and getting rejected was of course, very dejecting; but, as they say- you are not unsuccessful- may be something better awaits. Trust me, that is what happened in the end- I got a confirmation from Tata Steel Limited. And then soon, my offer letter arrived. I was offered a role in marketing for Tata Steel Aashiyana. After this, nothing mattered to me- after all, I was to intern at one of my dream companies and that too in Kolkata (where my family stays).
A millennial like I is no stranger to the name - Aditya Birla Group. It is present globally in every major industry one can fathom. Be it fashion and retail, infrastructure related to residential living, in providing financial solutions, and even in telecom industry. But it is not limited to only these, Novelis Aluminium is present in every 3rd aluminium can manufactured, every 2nd tyre in the world used in various automobiles has Birla Carbon in it, the list goes on and on, which makes me wonder that if there is even a single person out of 7.8 billion in the world, whose life is not touched or affected by ABG.
My summer internship placement, although not at the most glamorous of organisations, but it was at one of the most up and coming start-ups in the country, Interface. Having SBI in their client list, they thought to expand to other Avenues apart from financial institutions, hence hiring a new digital marketing team, which I was a part of as an intern.
I am an Electronics Engineer from Pune university who is pursuing a PGDM at NMIMS Bangalore. This summer I had the opportunity to intern with IoTIoT.in. The best part about working with brilliant driven people is that the zeal becomes contagious and makes one strive to outdo oneself. This story begins at the Oxford of the East, Pune. Innovation Lab no 3 of the Incubation centre called BHAU Institute in the campus of College of Engineering Pune to be more specific. The first thing that one may notice upon entering the said lab is not the awards that remain almost hidden out of sight but a strange Robotic ARM that cozily rests on the front table as though eager for some task that it was designed to perform. And perform optical detection of products for segregation using AI enabled computer vision so well that Siemens recognized its creator a final year engineering student from COEP and an Intern at IoTIoT for his efforts. The first question I asked Nikhil Sir the founder of IoTIoT.in was that why does the IoT appear twice in the name, his answer made me realize that I will be working with just the right kind of people, he replied “It looks like a person wearing glasses who is looking at you so we don’t need a separate logo/Mascot.”
Being a fresher, my internship was my first ever stint at the corporate world. I had been told multiple times that the corporate world was a scary place and it would take a lot of efforts on my part to actually survive there. With all these thoughts in mind, I had painted a bit of a terrifying image about the dimension I was about to enter into before I came to do my MBA.
