Each and every person on this planet has got some dreams that he wants to fulfil for himself or for some other person. Similarly, my family had a dream, to build our own home. Why this is so important? Because my father is an ex-airman and we never stayed at any one place for more than 4years and after his retirement, we really wanted to settle in. And then the day came when he bought a plot but he was yet to retire from his service. Slow and steady that day also came and the foundation was laid and then the branches. Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life? Because of Aditya Birla Tech, we are living in our dream house with no worries and whatsoever. The impact of the feeling that no matter what happens my family has got a safe and secure place to live is the best. A trust that no matter how bad the situation comes, we will be safe because we have got the strongest foundation. Trust that no brand can replace. Being an engineer indeed Ultratech is The Engineer’s Choice
The earliest memory of a product of Aditya Birla Group, which comes to my mind is of Freshwrapp, the aluminium foil food packaging product which was and will be the most used household item, at least in my family. Both my parents are working, and just like the song “Duniya ka naara Jame rahoge” from “Taare Zameen Par”, the morning scenes were exactly the same. My mom packing my lunch and the hot chapattis in Freshwrapp foil is a memory which won’t ever fade away.Freshwrapp wasn’t just a foil, it was a symbol of a mother’s care about her son/daughter and hence this product really brings back all the memories from the past.Right from the childhood till now and all the way into the future Aditya Birla Group is the face of many emotions I have gone through.Be it my childhood apparels from Pantaloons , be it UltraTech Cement used for building our first home , be it the first ever gift to my sister from Forever 21 and a handbag from Ted Baker , I really am amazed at the diversity of the conglomerate and how deep it has impacted my life. The most recent memory and the most powerful one is the one brand which actually gave me a sense of confidence and self-belief, the brand none other than “Van Heusen”.During my interview process at SIBM Pune, I was fully prepared with what to say and how to present myself, but doing all that wearing a suit was something I was not prepared for.A 21 year old boy accustomed to wearing casuals all day long, suddenly has to wear a suit and go for one of the most important interviews of his career, it couldn’t have gotten tenser than this for me.But then, shopping day came and I was with my grandfather as my father is posted in Srinagar. He straight away took me to a nearby Van Heusen store and I got my first suit in 30 minutes , the fitting , the comfort and the trust that my grandfather showed in this brand , gave a big push to my confidence and the brand completely lived up to its tagline “Power Dressing”.To be really honest, I didn’t realise this until last couple of years that all these impactful brands were under Aditya Birla group and hence this article is not just an entry but a “Thank You” for impacting my life on such a large scale without me even realising it.One specific brand , I would like to mention here I “Ralph Lauren” , I haven’t used this brand , but this brand was extensively portrayed in the T.V sitcom “F.R.I.E.N.D.S” , which happens to be my all-time favourite show , and hence a sense of attachment automatically comes to this brand.
The vast range of Aditya Birla Group products across areas makes it very tough to grow up with no/little exposure to them. Starting from the basic need of Roti (Birla Balwaan Fertiliser for better quality of wheat), Kapda (Louis Phillipe, Van Heusen, Pantaloons, Peter England etc..), Makaan (Ultra Tech Cement for better and good quality foundation of a house) to various complex areas like Chemicals (Chlor- Alkali, Epoxy Resins), Telecommunications (Vodafone-Idea), Trading and Logistics (Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises Pte Ltd.),etc..
During my school days, I suffered from Maths anxiety. Even though I studied hard and was up to date with the syllabus, during exams I got nervous and that impacted my score. This started taking a toll on my self-confidence. The financial position of my family was not that good at that time that they could afford a private tutor for me. I realized that It was only me who could take charge of the situation and change it. I toiled hard, took help from my friends and slowly I could see an improvement in my situation. I was able to control my anxiety during exams and my scores improved. Later on, I took Science in Std XII and pursued engineering which seemed impossible earlier. During engineering, I had to take tuition to support my expenses as my family was not in a good financial condition to be able to do that. During my college days, I was pretty sure that I wanted to pursue my post-graduation but I needed to take up a job as my father had already retired and I needed to step up and provide monetary support for my family. I had got 5 job offers on campus and I chose to join a leading IT firm. Although I was working, I started studying simultaneously so that I could clear the competitive exams and get admitted to a leading B-school. It was not easy; the stress and workload were getting to me. It was difficult to continue with the job as well as studies but still, I persevered. Finally, after 2 years of slogging, I could clear the interview with one of the leading B-School in India. The path was not easy but it was worth it at the end.
Aditya Birla group a company needs introduction.I don't think so!!!It's logo and punchline says all about it. It was founded by Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857 and is a legacy of Fortune 500. It operates in 35 countries and recorded revenue of $44.3 billion as on 2018.They are collectively working in different sectors successfully.
If you tie a baby elephant with a chain to a tree, he will never know and acknowledge the kind of power he has. Similarly, if there are no challenges in your life you will never understand your true potential and your learning will stop. Being from a state which has very less opportunities for studies and employment(Bihar) I always had to move to different places for education and jobs from a very early age (9 years). I have stayed in Patna, Deoghar, Delhi, Jammu and Mumbai. Every new place had a different challenge, for example when I came to Delhi, culture was totally different from what I had seen before, I was mocked because of my tone of speaking and I hardly knew anyone there. Technologies and environment was something I had not witnessed before. I always had a fear that I would do something wrong and everyone would make fun of me. To overcome this, I started creating a name for myself in school so that I could make friends and then slowly learn things from them. I was good with maths so I started helping students in class who were weak in maths and made friends in the process. Slowly and steadily life got good and I had best days of my short lived life in Delhi.
It is rightly said that being strong or weak isn’t important, what is important is to be exactly what the situation requires. For me, my parent’s gentle push towards adaptability has helped me get accustomed to all the situations encountered in life. Life is unruly and never comes with a road map. You encounter challenges at each stage and you need to fight them differently.
