I am Akash Kumar currently pursuing my MBA in International Business from IIFT Delhi.I am mechanical engineer looking for a career in managementAditya Birla group or ABG is one of the biggest conglomerate in India and it has an influence on the lives of almost every person in this country. It has an impact on my life too. Founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla, it has seen many ups and downs before reaching to this position and establishing it as one of the best brands in India. Starting from my childhood I have seen the presence of ABG's product when my mother used to pack my tiffin using aluminium foil called Fresh wrap which kept my food fresh for a long period of time. After some days, when my dad decided to build a house then we were very uncertain about the products to use in construction. After getting several suggestions,my dad decided to use Ultra tech cement to build our home and even after 10 years from construction, my house is still strong and beautiful. After from these major events, ABG's product are used by me on a daily basis. I stay in a small city called Ranchi where we lack the facility of good malls and shopping complexes but after Pantaloons store was opened in Ranchi, it became very easy for us to go and shop for various products at a single place. ABG holds a very special position in my heart as I gifted a shirt of Peter England with my first income and on daily basis I use products of ABG which includes brands such as Van Heusen, Forever 21 etc. I even bought my first pair of formal from Van heusen and hence ABG holds a special position in my heart.

In my final year,I was intrigued by the capital markets,I applied for all the trading companies that visited my campus,but I got rejected from all.Though I had an offer from L&T,I decided to opt out and invest some time in exploring the arena of capital markets.Initially I felt constrained on the grounds of knowledge,mentor ship,connections and also on confidence,but later I developed the habit of reading financial newspaper,which exemplified my understanding of trading and finance.After crossing the initial barrier of content,I somehow started with a minimal capital of 20k and took it to 38k within 15 days and lost all in the next 15 days.I was devastated by the fact that I had lost my time,money as well as my motivation.Inspiring stories of Seth Shiv Narayan Bilra and Dhirubhai Ambani did help me to start trading again,but I destroyed my second chance within 15 days.At this point of time my family was convinced that trading/investment is not the appropriate career choice for me and I stopped trading,In the course of time I was looking for some safer investment options like Mutual Funds,I was baffled by the consistent return produced by the Aditya Birla Capital Growth fund,thereafter I convinced my father to invest in it and after due consideration and faith in ABG group,he was finally convinced to invest 3.5 lakh in it.Presently the portfolio is performing well with 25% alpha.I have imbibed the value of patience and fortitude by using mutual funds as a mean of investment.I learnt that if I need to make my dream come to reality,I should clearly demarcate my aspirations and emotions,and at times should be practical and analytical.I shall consistently work in that direction with dedication as has done by ABG group.

It was only in the last month of June when I went to Pantaloons in City Centre 1 in Kolkata to buy some formal shirts and trousers as I was about to embark in my MBA journey. Pantaloons fashion and retail is a part of the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL). When it comes to formal apparel, some of the brands that I give my complete consensus are Peter England, Allen Solly, Van Heusen. It gives a sense of confidence whenever I wear the dress whatever be the occasion, be it for a job interview, any special occasion or a date with your dear ones. Breaking the Stereotypes!
My father always taught me that “The key to success is breaking the stereotypes”. Coming from a humble background himself, my father became an engineer and joined Coal India Limited. I have heard my grandmother telling stories of how he managed to save for his studies by living in a cow barn and teaching students as a part time job. Being a self-made man, he always encouraged me to follow my dreams. I remember him setting me free and letting me take my own decisions even as a child, but watching me from a safe distance to catch a hold of me if I fall down.

“I distributed sweets at my office, when you were born”, my father fondly remembers the time when he worked at Jayshree Insulators of the Aditya Birla Group. Having heard this innumerable times since childhood, I asked him one day about the “Birla Group” he kept on mentioning. That was the first time I got acquainted to the mammoth business empire and its exceptional reputation and values. As my father recollects, just mentioning that you have come as an employee of the group was enough for people to take notice and get the job done at priority. For people of such a huge country to take notice of a business house shows the importance of the group in their daily lives. It also shows how much people respect the contributions the group has made in nation building through its business since independence.
