On a rainy evening in September last year, when the Placement Committee announced, in their inimitable style, the beginning of the Summer Placement season, a surge of excitement came over me. However, after two gruelling and unsuccessful months of interviews, when Robert Bosch Engineering And Business Solutions came knocking for HR Interns, I was ready but not overly optimistic.
Some companies are humungous, many are profitable, quite a few are innovative but only a handful manage to be all of this and much more – “A Legacy”. These were my grandfather’s words as he was reminiscing his experience at TATA Steel the day I was leaving for my summer internship. So, for me personally, this internship was as much of consequential emotionally as it was professionally.
Microsoft is definitely one of the dream companies of anyone who wants to get into Product Management. The whole process of summer preparations culminated into two good months of enriched learning. As they say, the journey is more important than the destination; Microsoft definitely is one of those companies that ensure this. They made sure that my internship experience was a beautiful end to the months of preparations I put in to get there. I not only worked on one of the most upcoming technologies, but I was also made to feel how my decisions would affect my product’s direction.
As a person, I have always worshipped Taylorism (There is always one most efficient way of doing things). Incidentally, this belief of mine hit a rock bottom and crashed out during my summer internship preparation.
It started on a stressful afternoon in the month of September, the days that we dearly call "the Summers". Surprisingly, the GD and interview were the exact opposite of stressful. All that was required was good points, composure, confidence and also a knack for selling.
Intel – the brand name itself invokes a powerful sense of recall in the minds of the consumers. So, when I got to know that I would be having the interview for a summer internship with Intel, I was both excited as well as a tad bit nervous. “What if I made it? What if I lost the chance to intern with Intel?” – those questions had been going on in my mind.
Getting accepted into Universal Business School (UBS), Mumbai was the turning point of my life. Growing up and getting my primary and secondary education in a Marathi medium school in the city of Nashik had its own benefits but also a few difficulties. Dedication and sincerity were instilled in right along with an abundance of self-doubt. Will I be accepted in this professional world? Will I be laughed at? How do I communicate well? and many such questions paraded my mind. Nevertheless, it didn't hinder the hope for amazing life and excitement about getting this opportunity and with bags packed with necessities and eyes packed with dreams I set out on this journey.
