Let's make the place more mad. 'Brokers Please Excuse' has already used InsideIIM.com twice this year to hire some great guys. We got a terrific response last time round from people who chose to do something different. They chose hard work but also accountability. They chose sweating it out on the road but also the thrill of building a company.
This is Part V of the survey results which looks at Sales & Marketing and Technology domains. For earlier parts, see here
There is a lot of glamour attached to consulting. Most queries on our helpline and on our facebook page are around people wanting to know whether their profile is suited to get a shortlist from the top consulting firms. Consulting has been among the top 2 most preferred career domains for two years in succession as per the InsideIIM Recruitment Survey.
For years, Banking & Finance recruiters were responsible for the upward spiral in salaries at top Indian business schools. Top performing students on elite campuses are the ones who have a good chance at making it to global MNC banks. Although hiring has been muted over the last couple of years due to global headwinds, it still remains the most preferred domain among the cream of students on each campus.
The second part of the survey is about getting really serious with your career - it has all the inside dope on a host of issues concerning B school students, professionals and employers. Our earlier classification of respondents into three buckets remains in place, - MBA aspirants plus first year joinees, second year students, and post-MBA professionals. However, in this stage of the survey, the questions pertain to career choices - along the dimensions of domain, salary expectations, job satisfaction etc. Therefore, to ensure very high-quality data, we have allowed only second year students and post-MBA salaried professionals to respond to these questions. Use the knowledge about career decisions made by others, to make a better decision in your career. These are decisions that will stay with you for life. You don't have to follow the herd.
