Summer internships play an indispensable role in a management student’s life and is an impactful program with multiple touch points that enables the interns to know more about the company, its business units and to make an impact on business. My Association with a brand like Aditya Birla Group and more importantly one of its most valuable firms- UltraTech Cement Ltd. was in itself a great opportunity as I could proudly be a part of the company that contributes towards building India. The Ulchemies Program for summer interns was the first of its kind and the batch which was surely pampered.

I am Rajat Chouksey from PGP 2018-20 Batch of IIM Raipur. I was an intern in Key Accounts department in UltraTech Cement. The recollections of the first day at UltraTech are still fresh in my mind. I met the rest of the interns from JBIMS, NITIE, IIM-Shillong and the likes in a banquet room of Radisson at Andheri, Mumbai.

Overcoming Challenges - Aditti Agarwal, NMIMS Mumbai

Born and brought up in western Mumbai, right in the epicenter of the city, Andheri, I have not only been accustomed to the roads developed using UltraTech Cement, but also the standing evidence of the 5.6-kilometer-long Bandra - Worli Sea Link, constructed in the Arabian Sea, supported by UltraTech pillars, which helps to connect the city of Mumbai, wonderfully. Having my family office and maternal family residing in South Mumbai, using the sea link has been mandatory while travelling, as it provides my family and me with convenience, safety and reduction in our journey time. UltraTech Cement has been the backbone during this ambitious infrastructural construction and fueled the development of strong pillars to endure the raging waves of the Arabian sea. The most congested city of Mumbai was provided with a huge helping hand as this route reduced the massive forty minutes of travel from Bandra to Worli to only ten minutes. Moreover, having my home right outside a metro station, on the Versova - Ghatkopar metro route, I started considering to visit the shopping mall located at Ghatkopar, exclusively because of the development of metro and simultaneously, getting comfort and saving upon my time. The journey time came down from one hour to twenty-five minutes. I also see my father commuting to work, solely by the metro, every single day and when asked about his views, the three words which are always spoken about are, quick, safe and relaxing. Helping and serving approximately 3-4 lakh commuters each day, UltraTech has not only made Mumbaikars lives more comfortable, but also helped every single being travel faster, helping them have a better quality of life in this fast-paced city.

Because Big Is In Small Things- Shubhankar Aggarwal, NMIMS Mumbai

Being an introverted, shy and reserved personality, I was neither good at holding small talks nor with initiating talks. Getting into a B-school was a challenging job for me especially when my peers were so fluent and good with their communication skills. Moreover, belonging to a small town further reduced my confidence as I fumbled while speaking in English. Being low on confidence was a major deterrent to me. Lack of maturity and mixing professional and personal lives further complicated things for me. Working on my mind set, asking help from people, joining various public speaking platforms, travelling alone and taking initiative at my own helped me to be where I am today. From not being able to speak a single word in front of public to clearing almost all coveted b-school’s GD-PI processes was one huge chapter of my life. Amidst all these ups downs and failures, I realized the importance of health, though in a tough way. Being admitted in Fortis for a month due to my bad eating habits gave me time to think and contemplate my life. It was then I took major lessons on importance of health and education, it was then when I learnt to draw boundaries on my personal and professional life. Though failure has been a constant companion in my life but at the same time I have underwent a drastic transformation both mentally and physically.
