ADITYA BIRLA GROUP IMPACT -IMT GHAZIABAD

ADITYA BIRLA GROUP IMPACT -IMT GHAZIABAD

Whether it be the business field, educational institutions or responsibility towards society one name that is commonly talked about in these aspects is The Aditya Birla Group. Being an alumni of Birla Vidya Niketan, one of the many institutions owned by the Birla group has played an important role in my life. The institute not only provided me with an in depth understanding of the subjects but also promoted holistic development and rich cultural values. Such values are imbibed upon by very few institutions and I firmly believe that they are essential not only to better careers but also to help shape us into better individuals with a good understanding of social responsibility we have towards society.

So here I am, sitting in a cab-just after completing my ten hours’ journey from my hometown to the city of dreams… Mumbai. Usually, when I’m nervous, I try to divert my attention to seemingly trivial things. So when casually peeped out of the window and the magnificent web of the Bandra -Worli Sea Link (yeah... the well-known ‘ Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link’) greeted me. The design, the engineering, the size... everything was awe inspiring. I wondered how much cement would it take for such a huge construction? I googled, and the answer was 90,000 tones! And most of that was provided by one company, the UltraTech Cement. Cement might support just the construction loads but what a cement company shoulders is the burden of responsibilities of lives of millions of people depending upon its quality. And when it comes to trust, what better example can we have other than the Birla. Well, I’m just drifting away... shifting focus back to the sea link, I took out my phone to capture some selfies… (yeah, I’m a millennial, I do that). But the cab driver stopped me, since photography is banned there and they’d spot me from hundreds of CCTV cameras Looking at cameras, and huge electricity cables I wondered how much energy does this sea link consumes? And answer was 1000KW a day and I noticed the huge cables running across the bridge.  On some googling and surfing again I got to know that most of the copper for these cables as well as for the train I came in early in the morning was again provided by Hindalco, another Birla. Moreover, now I was recalling that not only transmission, but the Birlas have presence in production of electricity as well.

NEGATIVITY TO POSITIVITY -IMT GHAZIABAD

As it is aptly said by Michael Jordan "The game has its ups and downs, but you can never lose focus of your individual goals and you can't let yourself be beat because of lack of effort". The same is the case with life. Life has its ups and downs but people who don't lose focus of their ultimate goal despite all the disappointments, failures and hardships always tend to leave a mark in life. Coming from a middle class family, life isn't always easy but hey we're always supposed to see the brighter picture ain't it. Since CAT still seems like it was just yesterday I think that'll it'll be apt if I spoke about the challenges faced for the most sought after course, an MBA. I first appeared for CAT in 2017, having got a score that wasn't upto my expectations, I decided to retake the exam the following year. There were mixed opinions about the decision I had taken, friends and family were apprehensive, some gave me advice to take up a job, give some other competitive exams, pursue my Masters in my Undergraduate subject. All these mixed feedbacks and opinions had me experiencing a wide array of emotions but deep down I knew that I wanted a career in business. I used all the negativity and criticism as elements to keep me motivated

Given the prominence of ABG in indian market, the tagline of its subsidiary, Ultratech cement fits in here beautifully. ' Build beautiful' - Even though its a relatively new tagline, I believe this encapsulates the soul of the company. From finance to analytics to retail, ABG has always been leading the way for various other congloromates. There is no denying ABG's role in defining various indian industries, but one aspect of ABG that I am most enamoured with is there CSR activities. From providing helathcare services to educational support for hundreds of thousands of people in need. For those interested to know more, I will add a link at the end of the article. These activities, in my opinion, is what differentiates ABG from other successful congloromates present in India. I have mentioned some of their prominent works below.

Aditya Birla Group has been a part of my life even before I knew what company, brand and market means. I have been using different brands of the company without even thinking about my inclination.

Before someone rise there is always a downslide to the story. My downslide started when I completed my Class 10th. I got 9.2 CGPA but it was not enough for me to get admission in the morning batch of my school. The same school where I was studying for last 11 years. I was forced to join the afternoon session and I have to leave the FIIT-JEE batch which I was assigned according to my rank. I joined a weekend batch instead. Now my school was over only by 4pm and 5pm to 8pm I had FIIT-JEE classes. Everyday I was too exhausted for self-study. Even on weekends I had classes unlike other students. I was not able to cope up with the pressure. I knew very soon that I am not on track to crack IIT-JEE and my board preparation was also suffering a lot. But the pressure of not disappointing my father was to big for me to think rationally and analyze my situation. It was after the preboard when I decided not to try preparing for competitions anymore and just concentrate on boards. But it was too late. I scored mere 78.8% with 60 in Mathematics. I scored poorly in AIEEE obviously I had no chance in IIT-JEE. When you don’t know who you are and you aim too high, it back fires in most occasions. I had no options but to drop one year, because I didn’t have the guts to tell my father that even in AIEEE there is no certainty so we didn’t fill the form of many other reputed colleges. Down and dejected I was feeling hopeless when AIEEE results came. But something very dramatic happened, my father used to scold me a lot and always used to warn me of the consequences we might face. We were going through financial crisis for last five years and he was doing his best to provide me all the resources needed. But today he was the most supportive person out of all. He stood by my side and told me that it is okay and it is not that big a deal to perform bad in exam and it is just a part of life. I realized that throughout the two years he was more concerned about the process and not the result. That day we break a wall and effective communication started between the two of us.
