“Diversification is protection against ignorance”-as quoted by Warren Buffet, aptly describes my ambition to pursue higher studies in the domain of management. Having learnt the technical know-how of designing vehicle parts during my stint at TVS Motor Company, it was time for me to don the cap of a managerial executive.

XIMB, one of the most coveted and stellar B-schools of India, is the dream of many MBA aspirants. The drive in me to become a part of this prestigious institution was so strong, that I’d appeared for around four exams, in order to ensure a seat in their flagship program of BM. The initial process of shortlisting the college, applying for each of them before the deadline and the subsequent processes was quite a tedious one. But ultimately after having received an acceptance from most of my preferred institutions, came the hour of making a calculated decision. After a thorough evaluation of the salient features of each school, all paths led to XIMB.

Here I’d like to highlight the two major reasons which motivated and encouraged me to join this institute. The privilege of being called a “Xaverian” and carrying forth the legacy created by our current alumni, this was something which persuaded me to be a part of the same and reach the same level of excellence. The learning opportunities and the kind of exposure an MBA grad needs was just in ideal proportions, as perceived by me from different sources on the outset. Also, having resided in Bhubaneswar for most of my growing years, XIMB was a regular feature in the newspapers and media, with regards to the delegates visiting, business conclaves attended by dignitaries and many such other events. Apart from the above, being a native of Bhubaneswar, I got ample opportunities to visit the campus and feel the vibe and join the roar surrounding one of India’s biggest cultural fests, Xpressions. The air in the campus was buzzing with intellect, energy and the “X-factor” in its students which sets it apart from its contemporaries.

The second reason may seem a little silly, but having stayed for almost two and a half years away from home during my tenure at TVS Motor Company, it was an immediate welcome offer to stay in my hometown and pursue academics. Even though it is a completely residential program, the thought of having your home five minutes away is extremely comforting. All in all, it was the repute and the distinction of the institution created over the years, which strengthened my decision to join XIMB.

Hope these two years farewell for all my fellow batch mates and me.

Which ABG company do I want to work for?

Given a choice to select among the portfolio of the ABG conglomerate, I would definitely choose to be associated with the fashion retail brand houses. To name a few, apparel labels like Louis Phillipe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and Peter England rule today’s changing trends and offer the most preferred clothing options, for both the genders. These couture rich icons understand the evolving sense of fashion and incorporate the same in their designs.

Having a considerable work experience of 29 months in the Fit & Finish section of the R&D wing in TVS Motor Company, the concept of aesthetics is well understood and practised upon. In there, it was majorly the Style parts of the vehicle, wherein I had to ensure the best possible design fulfilling form, function and manufacturing feasibility. I believe since I have an eye for detail for the flaws and defects on the Class A surface, across any part/product, this shall surely help me improvise on the outgoing quality and efficiently guide the team on the same.

My prior work experience also entailed understanding aesthetics as per the customer’s tastes, with regards to the multiple market researches I have been a part of. Thus, I feel I shall be able to address the required needs and choices pertaining to clothing and apparel.

Also, given my established fashion sense among my friends and family, my desire to pursue career in the said industry shall be further augmented. This is how I believe, my profile would be best suited for the fashion retail companies since my previously acquired expertise on vehicle style and the managerial skills developed here in the course of two years, would equip me to deliver the best.
