From Kolkata to Bhubaneshwar my travel had mixed reactions, I had missed my opportunity of converting calls from IIM Lucknow and MDI Gurgaon. On the other hand, XIMB was a place which was renowned for its Alumni Network and Campus life. Though I was still getting over the depressing feeling of failing to convert IIM Lucknow and MDI Gurgaon, the thought of a new campus life at XIMB mesmerized me.
As I reached the campus, the lush green and compactness of it attracted me. It had a feeling of homeliness and soon I was about to find that bonds for a lifetime were about to be created here.
Starting with the seniors, professors and staff, all were putting in tremendous efforts to make our transition hassle-free. They were eager to support us to any possible extent whenever required.
But the real story pertains to making a group of close friends whose friendships would be cherished for life. We made a group with all of us coming from diverse backgrounds. My roommate Sourja came from IT background, Soumya Ranjan Shaw the guy next to my room was from Steel Manufacturing Division, Anubrata and Deeptiman were my college juniors whereas I came from the domain of Strategy and general management in steel. The group meant that we had a proper mix of freshness and experience from varied domains which helped us to draw vivid perspectives on various scenarios and affairs.
Another breathtaking experience was my first day at the classroom of XIMB. To see a sea of fresh faces whom I would spend a couple of years with was fantastic. Then an exciting ice breaking session was carried out by the college authority where we took part in various types of fun games and activities. This activities not only helped us to gel with each other quickly, but it also helped us to get the glimpse of personalities in each other which would be rudimental for us to work along with each other more efficiently in the days to come.
Which ABG company I want to work for and why?
With a prior experience of strategy and corporate coordination in an integrated Steel plant, manufacturing as a domain would be more suitable for me. Particularly the financial aspects and marketing aspects in a B-B business scenario of manufacturing is a domain where I have prior experience. Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco division would provide me with an opportunity to do deliver outputs in that domain itself. Though the market scenario would be somewhat different from steel, picking up the inherent differences wouldn’t be that difficult either. So for me, Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco is a division of my choice.
