IIM Shillong presents a different set of challenges, struggles, joys and all the unconventional things that a student can think before joining IIM Shillong. The campus is surrounded by clouds and beautiful scenery. The college campus is beautiful to say the least and with every morning walk, it gets reinstated even more.
To stay awake is the norm in most of the business schools and IIM Shillong is no different. The interesting part is that the mornings are amazingly refreshing, and it rejuvenates every one of us. IIM Shillong teaches you a lot of things, but I will put punctuality on top of the table. I realized the importance and difference of 9:00 am and 9:01 am. Amidst the sluggish pace of the city everything happens on time. The punctuality becomes an issue because in Shillong the most difficult thing is to be able to wake up on time. The weather just doesn’t let you wake up. The weather is good throughout the year that people don’t even use the fans. Here, we realize the concept that everyone is for everyone because of the hectic life and the problems that are presented in a business school. Everyone helps everyone around himself/herself to reach class on time, make a timely submission and most importantly awake people before lectures because attendance is a very strict parameter to judge any student at IIM Shillong as it symbolizes consistency and discipline. IIM Shillong runs in an extremely fun and open environment, but discipline is of utmost importance. Everyone values everyone and tries his/her best for not only himself/herself but also for everyone. It is amazing that almost everyone knows everyone by name. It is unique that I observed in the last 12 months at IIM Shillong.
The sense of togetherness is epitomized by the way all the festivals are celebrated on our campus. It is just amazing that people take time out of the hectic schedules and contribute towards making every event a success. The life outside campus is also equally amazing here. Most of the places in the city are closed by 10:00 pm. People are very relaxed, fun loving and football lovers. They have an extreme interest in music and every time you decide to book a cab, rest assured the ride is going to be filled with extraordinary music.
The best thing about studying in IIM Shillong is the friendship between clouds and rain. They will make you run in to shades any time they wish doing so. Somehow it happens that every time we make an outdoor plan we wish that it does not rain to make our event success. Clouds listen to us, always. They understand us and spirit of IIM Shillong.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
If I were to be presented with an opportunity to work for a company of Aditya Birla Group I would like to work for Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Limited. For the first year of management course as well as during summer internship I was involved in various marketing and branding related events. Those events have helped me in believing that I want to work for fashion brands. Moreover, this belief was more strengthened after I participated in The Case Study challenge – Pinnacle. Our team did not win the competition, but the case study allowed me to realize the untapped potential in the sector. If given a chance, I believe I would be working with ABFR.
