It’s 8:45 am in the morning and I woke up after having a sleep of just 4 hours. I have to enter the classroom at least 5 minutes before for 9 am class. I ran fast to the class and just managed it. It was my initial days, the most hectic and sleep-deprived days, at IIM Shillong. Life was moving extremely fast and I had to manage my performance among highly competitive batchmates. I did not even talk to my parents properly for more than one month since I came to Shillong.
It was the session of Self Leadership and Communication which was facilitated by Mr. Sanjeeb Kakoty. This was the only session in the whole first term where I felt relax and energetic. That day, Kakoty sir had something different in mind. He told a beautiful story about his journey in the life, about his achievements in early days of his life, about his failures and struggles and how he managed to finally start doing what he loves to do. This was really an inspiring story, but this was not the end. He then asked the class to come to the stage and told their stories to the whole class. This was a much-needed class, especially in that situation.
I still remember the silence in the class after first student started weeping while telling his struggles in his life. And one after another, many students came and told their stories to the whole class. The entire class got emotional and for the first time, students felt relax and forgot everything outside the class. It was a lifetime experience for all the students attending that session and a much-needed one to get revived again in that depressing phase.

Being an active investor in Indian share market, I always wanted to learn finance concepts especially Portfolio Management and Behavioral Finance. Also, this was the primary reason I decided to pursue MBA, although initially, I was not very sure about. As expected I felt very engrossing while learning theoretical concepts in all courses related to finance. I am sure after completing my first year at IIM Shillong about working in financial services sector and particularly in Asset Management field.
