I graduated from IIT Palakkad in 2020 with a focus on Mechanical Engineering. My career journey began at Perceptive Analytics as a Data Analyst, where I contributed to key business decisions through impactful data dashboards. Over the past few years, I’ve honed my skills in tools like Tableau and Power BI while working on projects across various domains. Recently, I joined Pinnacle Group, where I continue to focus on data analytics, with aspirations of eventually transitioning into business consulting and leadership roles.
2. Why MBA?
An MBA will help me transition into strategic decision-making and leadership roles, which are critical to achieving my career goal of becoming a business consultant. My experience in data analytics has exposed me to the importance of business strategy, and I believe an MBA will provide the necessary skills in areas such as management, leadership, and innovation. IIM Bangalore’s emphasis on case-based learning, leadership development, and its collaborative environment make it an ideal fit for my aspirations. This program will equip me with the expertise and network to shape business strategies and drive organizational growth.
3. Managing CAT prep. Along with a job?
Balancing CAT preparation with a full-time job was definitely challenging, but it helped me develop better time management and discipline. I followed a study plan where I used my evenings and weekends for focused preparation. My work experience also helped me think logically and solve problems faster, which was useful for CAT. I mainly used online resources like Cracku and CL mock tests to practice and track my progress.
4. How many mock tests did you take, and how did you analyze them?
I was a repeater, so I began taking mocks early, starting in June. Initially, I took 3 mock tests to get a sense of the pattern and identify my weak areas. Gradually, I increased the frequency and ended up taking a total of 28 mock tests before the actual CAT exam. After each mock, I spent significant time analyzing my performance by reviewing incorrect answers, understanding why I made mistakes, and identifying question types or sections that consistently gave me trouble. This helped me fine-tune my strategy and improve both accuracy and speed over time.
5. What are the B-school interview calls you get?
IIM B , L , K, I, M, CAP, FMS
6. Interview experience from IIM-B?
My interview experience with IIM Bangalore felt more like a thoughtful interaction than a traditional interview. Most of the questions were based on my Statement of Purpose, focusing on my motivations, career goals, and the reasoning behind key choices in my journey so far. The panel also asked a few situational questions to understand my approach to problem-solving and decision-making under pressure. Overall, it was a conversational and reflective process rather than a high-pressure grilling. They seemed genuinely interested in understanding me as a person beyond the numbers on my resume or academic performance.
7. What would be your top 3 tips for someone aiming for IIM B?
If you’re aiming for IIM Bangalore, a strategic and well-rounded approach is essential.
a. Focus on excelling in the CAT, as it plays a major role in the shortlisting process. Build disciplined preparation schedule, strengthen fundamentals across all sections such as Quant, Verbal, and DILR, and most importantly, take regular mock tests. Mocks help simulate the actual exam environment, build time management skills, and highlight areas for improvement. Analyze each mock thoroughly to track progress and fine-tune your strategy.
b. Second, craft a compelling Statement of Purpose (SOP). This is your chance to connect the dots between your academic background, professional experience, and future aspirations. Structure your SOP as a personal narrative starting from Class 12, moving through your college journey, internships, career choices, and culminating in your motivation to pursue an MBA at IIM B. It should reflect clarity of purpose, self-awareness, and alignment with what IIM B offers.
c. Third, work on presenting a holistic profile. While academics and work experience matter, IIM B also values leadership potential, extracurricular involvement, and social impact. Highlight any initiative you’ve taken, challenges you've overcome, or unique contributions you've made in any area of life. These helps differentiate your profile and show your ability to thrive in a collaborative, peer-driven environment. Lastly, take as many mock interviews as possible. They build confidence, improve your ability to articulate your thoughts clearly, and prepare you for handling unpredictable questions. Consistent practice, both for CAT and interviews, is key to making your IIM Bangalore dream a reality.
8.Final advice to CAT aspirants?
Don’t get too discouraged by fluctuating mock scores; they're part of the process. Focus on regular practice and stay consistent with your efforts. Over time, your hard work will show results.
9.Looking back, what would you do differently if you had to prepare again?
I would focus more on consistency and smarter time management right from the start. I’d begin mock tests earlier to identify weak areas sooner. Setting small, realistic goals would help maintain steady progress alongside work.
