Getting back to college after 5 long years was a prospect that thrilled me the most when I decided to pursue the coveted master’s degree in business administration. Needless to say, I left no stone unturned as far as the conventional research formula goes (Top ranked colleges, Fees, Average packages offered etc). Thence, after the grueling interview season and shortlist letters, I finally had a list to choose from. However, I was aware that my need for a good college experience would not be satiated merely by scratching the surficial details. Now was the time for interaction. I began my enquiries with personal contacts. Many of them seemed to be enamoured by the name of one college, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB). This did not come to me as a surprise. Jesuit institutes’ academic rigour, open-mindedness, quality academics, illustrious alumni and their stress on discipline as a way of life are facts that every educational aspirant comes across our country. XIMB is also one of the top Jesuit institutes in our country. Still, I was in a quandary for I was spoilt for choice with my pick of the platter of equally good institutes. It then came to me as a pleasant surprise when I received a mail one day that there was going to be a “RendezvouX”. The clever spelling apart, I was impressed that the students of this one college which I had got a call from were actually taking the responsibility to interact with the plethora of candidates who had got the call and also waitlisted. This zeal to reach beyond the sphere of college life and guide the rookies into the life of a b-school struck a lasting impression on me. These were the students of XIMB. None of the other colleges that I received a call from reached out to me quite like the students of this college did. The interaction with my prospective future seniors in college further cemented my decision. I finally decided and went for the best I had in hand. Thus began my two years at XIMB.
Which ABG company I would like to work with and why?
During my CA articleship, I was fortunate to be a part of the statutory audit team of Ultratech Cements Limited. I have observed the functioning of the finance departments at the manufacturing plant and packing plant level. The tight internal controls and professional functioning apart, I was impressed by the cordial and conducive work atmosphere. The highest quality of people work at Ultratech and thus, it leads the cement market in India. My tryst with Ultratech has given me the confidence that it is one of the best employers in India and I would love to be a part of it.
