A B-school is certainly not anything like what we imagine it to be while appearing for the infamous CAT exam. MDI, being one of the top institutes in the country is no different. Most of us came here looking forward to the ‘b-school life’ that would allow us to develop as individuals while giving us enough time in these two years to follow our passion. However, the first week completely changed our perception about the next two years!
I would describe what MDI did to us in the first week as ‘beating us into shape’ to get us ready for the challenges ahead in life. From the Director’s introductory session to the end of the week, the emphasis was laid on the rigour of this program and one thing was pretty clear. While MDI allows you to follow your passion and supports you with every imaginable resource (like the faculty members, library content etc.), it's upto you to find the time to do it.
However, that’s not the thing that makes MDI unique. It is the spirit of the students here, who have the will to go beyond their capacity, both physically and mentally. A classic example of this would be the King of Kings (Section wars) that was held here in the first month. Despite the usual workload and upcoming mid-terms, every student participated in some sport or the other and it was not their physical endurance that allowed them to juggle work with playing multiple sports in a day (sometimes even at 2 am in the morning). It was their mental strength and their character that led them to play to win. And even when not an ounce of energy was left, they still went ahead to cheer their fellows. But why go through the trouble to do all that? None of us are here to train for the Olympics. So why spend so much time and energy playing? Because nothing builds bonds better than sports and MDI understands that in a way that’s nothing short of beautiful. Hence it’s this bond that we create here amongst ourselves and with the college that is not just unique but also pure.

A background in commerce and a keen interest in finance set my inclination towards Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL). Being the 4th largest assets management company in India by domestic AAUM (as of September 2017), it would allow me to apply all my current knowledge while tremendously enhancing my knowledge base and perspective. After all, to be the best one must work with the best.
