Let’s start with me introducing my band of Weirdos (yes, we call ourselves that and we are damn proud of it, well everyone except Shanil who thinks he is too cool to be one of us). We have a Mechanical nerdie called Divyesh whose life purpose lies in gymming and having chai. I repeat, chai and not tea. Then we have Ankitha, who is a half CA (her own words) aspiring to be an actress. She just auditioned for Arjun Reddy (Telegu superhit)’s remake in Hindi. And then we have my bro, Shanil who is in love with his Finance professor and will give his left kidney for Manchester United match tickets. Only a week had passed since we entered our second year. Aah, the coveted, long awaited second year of b-school! After the routine of schezuan cheese sandwiches at Adda and then a round of badminton, we relaxed at our usual place, the terrace of Student Residence 05. Such beautiful sunsets and the cool breeze, unique to Prabandh Shikhar. Our home, the palace on the hill, IIM Indore.
So, tonight, unfortunately for some reason all the eateries were closed and it was past 10pm, so we missed the mess dinner as well. We were ravenous. So, we have this Dhabba right outside our campus called Veerji. College students love shady dhabbas. So, we planned a nice walk around our beautiful campus towards Gate number 1. As we walked down the slope, while making fun of each other (mostly me), I stopped for a minute, trying to soak it all in and print it permanently in my heart. This is it. This is my last year and I love every minute of it.
There is this watchtower on the way. Always locked, always mysterious. So tonight, I asked Shanil if we could just try to enter it. Risky yeah, illegal, maybe not. We tried opening the lock, and then we heard the guard, I froze. But, would you believe it, he offered to open it and escort us to the top of the watchtower! We climbed the serpentine stairs and reached the top and opened all the windows. The guard told us all sorts of stories and incidents that he had seen from the top. Some very controversial and some scandalous. And then everyone was quiet. No pictures, no talking. Such pure silence. Our beautiful serene campus lit by the starry night looked like a snapshot out of a fantasy Disney movie. And that is the unique thing about my campus, its not just my home, it’s my Hogwarts.
When I came here, new to the business corporate world and culture, unlike most, the one thing I was most worried about was the dress code. Everyone is so strict about it. For someone who was so fashionably challenged, Allen Solly saved my life. From formal wear to shoes to bags, one-stop solution, that’s what it is. It's so comfortable, trendy and perfect for someone like me. I would certainly like to work at a company that has brands like Allen Solly, Peter England etc. So, one company I would like to work and be a part of would be the Aditya Birla fashion and Retail Ltd and if possible with friends and family discount!
