Whenever one thinks of MBA, the first thought that the person has is the ample opportunities that he will get in their careers, the placements that one will get from the college and sometimes even in the dream company or the dream job. When I started off at NMIMS, Bangalore last year, the only goal that I had was to get a job where I had the opportunity to learn and widen my horizon.
For the same, I started preparing for the interviews and the first company that came to campus for HR placements (Summer Internship) was IndianMoney.com. During the entire selection process, the company expected us to have knowledge about how the entire ‘Hire to Retire’ process takes place and drafting of selection and promotion mails followed by a round of interview by the Recruitment Team and then by the CEO of the company.
After 6 months when we joined the company, the experience of the internship in those 8 weeks was immense. In those 8 weeks my mentor Ms. Neethu K helped us in understanding the company’s business model and the revenue model also how the departments are related with one another.
In the internship, the projects worked on were making of the Manuals for the Money Doctor and Partner Success Team of the company. It involved interacting with the concerned people in the organisation related to the department to make the Manual as it was to be like a Bible for the employees. It would have aspects right from the recruitment and selection to the time they exited the organisation. It included the work as well that they had to do in the organisation as well.
A gap analysis was conducted for the Money Doctor department where changes were recommended to make the workplace more employee friendly. A list of employee engagement activities to be carried out in the year was also listed for the employees.
Various HR Policies of the organisation were also documented. These policies were the ones not for legal reasons but to make the organisation much more systematic like having an Attendance Policy or a Dress Code Policy, etc. Marketing also being one of the specialisations of my interest, Content Writing was also done during the internship.
In order to ensure that the employees were much more effective, they had to undergo an NiSM Series X – A certification and to ensure that more and more employees clear the exams, a sample 300+ questions from books and websites was prepared for the same.
During the entire internship, my mentor played a very important role in guiding through each step and ensuring that whenever I was stuck with some work to help us out and solve my queries. Apart from the same, she used to keep regular account of the work given to us and if it is truly being done well. She also tried to implement as many as our recommendations as possible wherever possible taking into account the cost factors as well.
The entire internship experience was filled with learning and the only thing that helped me in this entire duration was applying whatever was learnt in the first year of MBA in practical scenarios.
