It has been three weeks since I registered myself as a student of the BM program at XIM, Bhubaneshwar. Coming from an engineering background, without any professional work experience, the decision to pursue a course which finds applications in diverse fields and which is pursued by people from different academic backgrounds with varying magnitudes of work experience was one which would decide the course of my career.
So, after a year of gruelling preparation, I was able to perform extremely well in one of the well-reputed entrance exams in the country, XAT, and in the subsequent stages of the admission process as well. By virtue of which I was able to secure an admit in XIMB. Now, as I am trying to make peace with the rigorous MBA way of life, a simple yet profound question tickles my brain, “why did I choose this college”?
The Xavier brand is well known all throughout the country for its academic curriculum and enjoys a good reputation in the industry too, its strong alumni network guides students and helps them during various stages of their college and professional life.
As I stepped onto the campus, the greenery inside captivated me. By the time I was done with the initial formalities(read just finished registration), I received a mail with a few assignments attached to it. The mail said “welcome to the Real MBA”. The batch meets and welcome parties that followed helped me network with my seniors and with my fellow batch mates. The orientation exercise was an experience of a lifetime. I learnt that one of the most fundamental skills of a manager is handling unforeseen circumstances. I was put through a rigorous schedule which forced me to push my limits. The feedback I got from my seniors helped me realize what kind of managerial qualities I was lacking and most importantly I learnt to work hard and party harder.
The above-mentioned events took place within five days of me joining the institute, Which got me thinking if so much could take place within such a short span of time, imagine the kind of impact two long years of XIMB will have on my personality. Hence, I can say with finality that my decision was indeed a wise one.
WHICH ABG COMPANY DO I WANT TO WORK FOR?:
I would like to work for a company which allows me to leverage both my technical knowledge and my managerial skills. Hence, if given a chance to be a part of the esteemed Aditya Birla Group, I would like to be associated with IDEA Cellular Limited. I would prefer taking up a marketing profile, will use the technical skills I possess in the field of telecommunications along with the managerial skills I will acquire in the two years of my MBA program and add a lot of value to the company.
