In the last couple of weeks, the entire nation debated whether it is absolutely necessary to conduct the national level entrance examinations like NEET and JEE during the monstrous spread of coronavirus in the country. While one segment debated that ‘life should go on’, the other stated that it's of no harm to delay it further. But, why is conducting an exam such a big issue in our country, and is it just our country? Are other national level exams like CLAT, CAT, UPSC, etc going to be any different? This and a lot more in today’s Teachers’ Day episode of Dekoded, where we decode things from the everyday world.
While the whole world is grappling with coronavirus cases and is clueless about how to balance things out, a major debate around exams rocked India. While there were constant delays and postponement in the national level entrance exams like NEET, JEE, and CLAT, not much had been done to address the problem. Students and their parents protested and went to courts appealing to defer the examination, which the courts rejected. The other side of the ills of not conducting the exams in an already burdened education system in India is also concerning.
We tried to understand what makes this situation so grave and what it would mean for upcoming exams like CLAT and CAT in the coming days.
Tell us in the comment section below, what do you think about CAT being a home-based online test? Do you think canceling or postponing the CAT is a good option?
