When I first received my offer letter, I was sceptical to join IIM Indore as I had other offers from other premium B-schools. But the lucrative IIM tag and proximity to my home landed me here. The first negative thing you listen about IIM Indore is its batch is too big and opportunities for various avenues get scarce. But on visiting campus I think it is a strength, not weakness. Because of such diversity, the amount of exposure and networking skills you receive is enormous. The scale at which many fests happened is amazing and the leadership and management skills you get for hosting such events is really helpful. The other thing which amazes you is the campus infrastructure and its serene beauty. I was awe-struck when I first visited campus. It took me around 2-3 hours to see the entire campus. The sunset point, titanic point and the beautiful hilly curvy road that welcomes you to the academic block is something to experience.
Then came the festivals especially UTSAHA the rural marketing fest of IIM Indore which is turning to urban as well this year is something which is Unique to IIM Indore only. With all the FMCG companies exploring the potential rural market in India, this festival gives you hand on experience on how to market and sell in rural markets. Another event which is unique to my campus is Rural immersion program where each year a group of 4 students visit a village to review various government initiatives. Students of to stay in the village for 5 days in the Zila Panchayat. The experience was quite astounding and we were able to experience the grassroots problems faced by the villagers and how the government policies are reaching to the villagers. The interaction with the villagers and the difficulties we faced while communicating is really a helpful lesson we might face in our corporate life.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to join IDEA Cellular as I already have 22 months experience in telecommunication domain. I can understand the nuances and technicalities of the field better than any other industry. Also, with the advent of 4G technology and government initiatives like “Digital India” and increasing penetration of smartphones, the future of telecommunications industry looks bright. And with the recent consolidation in the telecommunication industry, the profit margins can increase in future. Various revenue and cost synergies can be realised with IDEA-Vodafone merger as well.
