At one level we should all be very worried about anything we post online, because (as has been proven numerous times) when you post anything it can stay around forever. What you may flippantly say today can come back and bite you in the proverbial ass at any point for decades to come.

Governments, like bomb squads, must handle issues on social media with utmost care, not only to diffuse conflicts but also to encourage discourses on inclusive actions. We live in an ultra-connected world today, where a multitude of media—including the internet—and a host of channels crisscross, complement and supplement each other. If one of the streams is cut, the flow of communication seeps through parallel channels and reaches the audience it is intended for. Nevertheless, governments seem to think otherwise.
Good that with a strong Budgetary focus on farmers and rural welfare, the government may have initiated a much needed course correction. After all, growth must be inclusive in order to be sustainable. An eye also on the state elections maybe, as analysts point out, but full marks to Arun Jaitley nevertheless for listening to the average farmer's “mann ki baat.”

The dramatic shift in the budget towards a rural focus was predicted by most analysts given the failure of monsoons two years in a row and the defeats in Bihar Assembly and Gujarat local elections. The current agitations for reservations in Gujarat, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh were also used to buttress the logic behind the rural shift.
The funny thing about rumours is that there are 2 kinds, as we all know from our personal experiences. When a rumour starts you don't know if it is true or false. Either way it tends to grow virally almost in geometric progression. And all the time the public waits for a confirmation on the truth or falsity of the rumour and anxiously at that.
